Which To Promote?

I am signed up to Purevolume, Soundclick and MySpace.

Obviously this allows for a lot more opportunity for promotion. The question is, which one should I promote the most? It may confuse the potential listener to leave them three different links.

Any ideas?

I like Purevolume in terms of its presentation, I like Soundclick in terms of the features, and I love MySpace because it allows me to interact with "fans". They all have advantages and disadvantages.

Ask a fan to check all three out and ask them which they prefer. If they are pretty much equal in terms of support to you then let an abjective party decide.

I update all the sites I have signed up for like this. I mainly promote the MySpace one, but the other ones are all up to date if people happen to browse to them.

myspace sounds the best. less clipping on the streaming audio. purevolume and bandspace (don't know about soundclick) all playback super lo-fi/crappy.

Do like GRN said and dish out a couple of bucks to get your own site. Its gotten alot cheaper over the years.

I know that whenever I see a band has their own website and domain then it makes me think they are more serious about their music than someone who just uses the usual free hosting spots.

Don't get me wrong, they're great free space but if you're serious about your music and want to step up a level in terms of presenting yourself as a professional then get your own site.

Oh yeah I am cool with getting my own site. Certainly got that in the pipeline (I am a web designer)... But you see the free ones are very good for people who just happen to be "searching" for the odd tunes. If you use the right keywords etc. they can be profitable.

I just wondered which ones people give most exposure to, seen as they all offer some nice promotion features which you probably couldn't offer on a website.

OK I been around awhile and I have to say that as far as asthetics and flexability go, I like what I've seen on http://www.mixposure.com ...

... that being said, I relly don't like the way the whole "review" thing is handled. But their designer/developer definitely knows what he/she is doing.

Ok, so if you have your own web site to host music etc, is there any purpose to having a presence on these free services also?

Would there be any increased exposure? Increased hits or publicity? Are people likely to come across your music through it being on one of these hosts when they otherwise wouldn't have found out about you?

If the answer to any of these questions is positive, then there's every reason to join as many as possible i guess.

On the other hand, if they only are as good as your own efforts to promote them, then if you have your own site don't bother with these others and promote your site.

Does anyone know from expereince if there are benefits of doing both (extra hits or traffic resulting for example)?

MySpace draws in many hits to my band's site compared with the other free hosting sites. music.download.com helps too. The rest don't do too much, but can't hurt.

My band is signed up to all three and we do promote all three, but here is the facts about all of them:

1. Soundclick has no friends. meaning nobody ever goes to soundclick because of how hard it is to actually get to the music. I realize its not that out of the way to click two links, but you will be suprised how confused people get when there isn't an mp3 player.

2. Out of them all Purevolume has the greatest fan base. Everyone knows purvolume and its definatly good to get your music there. But once you are there, its quite hard to promote yourself on the site, seeing that there is no way of actually contacting people.

3. Myspace!!! I have worked with all three of these sites equaly and found tha myspace is by far the greatest. When I first started out on the site it wasn't that big, but it has been growing and now almost equals Purevolume on who knows about it. The great thing about Myspace is it is a comunity of people.. so you can easily contact various amounts of certain people and have them give your band a listen... And who can forget friends. I don't know what I would do with out myspace friends. By far the greatest way to promote your music shows, and other sites.

Go with Myspace I promise you its the best.

They all link to your website. The most links the better of a chance you will show up on search engines.
