a bit OT and silly of me but, i can't for the life of myself get stinberg or cakewalk to playback a track and record a track "without" recording the frist playing mixed back in with the second recorded track?

am i saying that right? i want to play a drum track on track 1 and record guitar on track 2 "without" the drum track in it, track 2, guitar alone on 2, no drums...

i wish to play tracks and record a track by itself all at once, is this possible? i believe so but can't comprehend how the monitoring is config...

does it require panning the channels? left and right? sorry...

if some kind person would attempt to explain how the monitoring goes i'd appreciate it very VERY much...

excuse the OT post here, and my general ignorance...

thanks...

sounds like you are monitoring through your line in....
the line in should be dedicated to the instrument....monitor through your soundcard...not the (I presume) mixer...

i was using the wav/what you hear mixer setting, soft mixers work with line in as a single input, thanks...

Do you have an Audigy Platinum Card?

just a blaster live on the system in question, i use it for midi/sf2 sample work, i have dual delta 410 systems as my primary recorder.

yeah, even more inputs/outputs to deal with...

i've got a lot of reading to do, i know...

i may ditch stienberg/calkwalk for acid, there help info is easier for me, maybe n-tracks...

or just cep really, not that that deep into it unfortunetly (guitar player)

i'll click one day i guess, sure would be nice to have video instructions...

someone could make bucks doing it i believe...

with all the new traffic i see coming through this forum and all, yes....

Cubase SX 2.0

Need I say more ?

Ok ok....Pro Tools is also pretty fine (heheh)

I voted Cool Edit Pro. I've been using it for 2 years now, and may even upgrade to Adobe Audition, if they do the program right. I think it is the best and simplest when tracking live, acoustic music. Here's my band and our demo we recorded using CEP.

I am confused. The whole point of a multitrack recorder is to play tracks and be able to layer others over top as you go...

I just got reaktor and goddamn WTF is going on with this shit??

I use nuendo or cubase to track/edit
wavelab or soundforge to put on the finishing touches and bust out a cd.

Otari, Studer, MCI Tape Machines for tracking...

Pro Tools HD 2 for Editing

Ampex 2 Track for mix down.

I Sonar XL 2.2 and Steinberg's Wavelab. The first product i used was from cakewalk, and i've stuck with it ever since. It has the best interface for multitrack recording and editing software i have used. I use wavelab mostly for editing my final mixes.

Cubase VST 32, and (((whisper))) band-in-a-box, some Soundforge. I like band in a box 'cause I'm not a keyboard or bass player, and it's a convenient way for me to generate bass, drums, and keyboard keys for the midi editor in Cubase. then add audio tracks. Yeah my tunes can sound a bit "generic", and yeah it's far from pro, but that's all I got for now. I'm just learning, and it's only a hobby.
I dig RMF for as a Sample player VSTi for drums. I do play guitar - acoustic and 'lectric and harp for live input. I am in the process of spec-ing out my hardware upgrade (((again whisper))) now running on P2 266. Anyone recommend a mainboard? AMD.

I use pro tools because its fast and time is money.

Its not the most powerful DAW but why take a space shuttel to the grocery store.

I also think speed has a huge impact on creative flow.

Is It against the law to buy a decent soundcard?

Ive seen TONS of people bitchin about their Cubase setup but they neglect to mention the hardware for audio that they're using.

I have Cubase VST 5.1
I use a Duron 1.2 ghz cpu on a Chaintech 7AJA2E board i think its a Via Chipset KT133 blah blah...256 mb PC133 SDram, Seagate 80 gb Barracuda 7200 rpm drive

Running Windows XP Pro

Did all the XP tweaks Blah blah turned off effects fast user switching all that wonderful stuff

Cubase has crashed when i used bad plug ins but after i cleaned that up no more crashes.

I want to upgrade to a Athlon XP 2000..thats the maximum chip my board can handle.

BUT if it wasnt for MY SOUNDCARD all this would not be possible.

The soundcard is a M-Audio Revolution Card..its got i believe 2 ms latency on it maybe its 10..but either way i have absolutely no probs with my set up

Ive noticed that more people who use Intel setups have probs with Cubase than not.

This might be an issue...whats really crazy is dude that used a P2 550 mhz system with no problems...maybe this is a sign of the times when it comes to the pentiums current chip outings?

If you want to hear what I did with this setup go to

Audition (not Cool Edit Pro anymore), by Adobe, its $299 for the full version or $99 for the upgrade.
a very nice software, worth the price. if you're not doing midi then its a very good option. well for tracking and mastering as well

i dont have nothing to compare it (never used another software) but its just great
