has anybody ever used garageband??? i'm looking for a program, and was just wondering what everyone thought on this one.

I got GB. Work ok for scetches. Can even import garageband projects straight into Logic Pro.

I do all of my work in Acid Pro 5.0, don't do any multi-track (once I get my delta)

Doesn't crash
Easy for me to use (i use vegas for video editing)

Sadly this thread must come to an end....but before it's put to rest there will be a quiz for all who have participated.

The quiz will be fairly simple (only one question) actually.

Okay thinking hats on....??

The quiz question is:

Which software do you use to make an audio recording??

Ready begin

Given the age of this thread I am surprised to see that their is "no clear winner" as far as aftware is concerned. This goes to show personal preference makes is a HUGE part of software selection. I'm personally a fan of SonicFoundry programs, but I may be considering alternatives for multi-tracking.

Samplitude Pro for audio recording.
Several people are very happy using Vegas for video and choosing Samplitude as the audio editor within Vegas.

Hah! It's a trick question! You don't use software to make an audio recording. You use a skill and experience!

You'd be surprised at how many people actually have to resort to the software :)

For the majority of audio recording, Pro Tools 6.9. For more MIDI based stuff, I'll hop around between Logic 7/Reason 3.0/and Ableton Live.

Wavelab 5, WAVES DIAMOND
Soundforge 8
CD Wave(for tracking )
Flac Frontend(for flaccin)

But if I had to choose 1 program..it would be wavelab 5, and WAVES Diamond.

Open source

All my recording software is open source under GNU-Linux. I use Ardour as a DAW (the very latest release - 0.99 is as stable as its ever been and very easy on the CPU), and JAMIN as a very professional sounding mastering application.
I might consider some commercial applications such as ProTools, but number one, I'm a student so funds are limited. Number two, why bother? Number three, I don't like windows, and don't even have it installed. That only leaves a Mac, but like I said, funds are limited

I use logic audio because . . .

it is the one that seems to operate how my head is wired. I have found LA to be more intuitive for me than the others, and is very versatile with midi.

I run Pro Tools LE 6.4
The reason i use PTLE, is basically because I was taught using PT though out my time at Multimedia College.
Therefore I am very familiar with it, thats when i picked up a digi 001 (w/ PTLE 5.1 at the time) for home use.
I dont see the point in changing over software now, everything is runing smoothly and i'm efficient with it.
I intend on upgrading eventually, to a newier digi product, but not any time soon.

And for midi stuff, i use Reason 2.5, like stated before, i'll get around to upgrade to Reason3 :)

It gets me home.

Traction to record.

Audition 1.5 for editing.

Reason 2.5 for synth and sequencers.

Hey people quick question, from another newbe. is cool edit not to good, I got cool edit and cubases, but dont know too much about cubases yet.

works for voiceover

I use Sound Forge Audio Studio 8 and CoolEdit Pro 1.2a. Works great for my voiceover jobs.

I began recording with nTrack studio, and now I use Sonar 4.0 Producer. Sonar basically RAPES nTrack in more ways than one. For the begginer, nTrack, suffice to say, is good.

Oh yeah, I occasionally use Fruity Loops Studio 5, which is pretty fun to use!

Vegas

I love Vegas for it's stability, no crashes, no artifacts. Would love it if it could work with midi as well. Anyone know of a Vegas version that acts as a midi sequencer as well?
