I didn't read all the postings, (too many posts and too little time), but I don't see Digital Performer as an option on the survey or as a comment on the first page of threads.

I'm a newbie, so feel free to flame away if I've missed something obvious, but where is DP? Am I the only one using DP? (Granted I'm still using DP3!)

I use DP4.5, and briefly used 4.12. Totally loving it.

All my old stuff was done on BIAS Deck, but they haven't upgraded it to support Mach-O VST plug-ins, to support Audio Units, or to not crash constantly on dual processor machines (without disabling one CPU). It misreported sample rate to per-track VST plug-ins in 48kHz projects and absolutely couldn't handle a FireWire hard drive for audio files at over about 20 tracks without stuttering. It would sit there with the hard drive idle for fifteen seconds, then suddenly slam the disk really hard, and then stutter. Bumping my RAM up to 1.5 gigs seemed to help a bit, as did moving to a machne with a bigger internal HD, but the other problems still forced me to pretty much abandon it for new projects.

So needless to say, DP is a total breath of fresh air. I'm not having to write my own custom plug-ins to replace things that Deck came with that don't work. I'm not having to write custom translator tools to convert Deck projects to OMF because Deck can only (barely) import OMF, not export.... And so on. Ah, finally, a bit of sanity in an otherwise mad, mad world.

i use tracktion..love it. I use a lot of VSTis so it is perfect for that. It also has a very powerful summing engine and sounds great. I think many people dont take it seriously because of the price, but it could easily be sold for 5 times as much.

It also is a very easy interface to use. I think one thing that people dont like is the lack of a mixing board. If you can wrap your head around that, then I think you will love it. I had Sonar PE 4 and dumped it for tracktion.

It also matters what your recording style is, and for me tracktion is better suited for what i do.

Cool Edit Pro 2,0

I used to use Sonar 2 but have grown to love Cool Edit. Well, I had to since Sonar gave me problems on my new computer. :)

i use cool edit for vocal recording. its real user freindly and switching from multi track view to single to edit is the iceing on the cake.

Logic Audio on a Mac. Sometimes protools. Logic does it all all hail logic.

Nuendo, because it's what I have. And from what I've seen of other software (ie. Pro Tools) it's way more intuitive to use. Honestly, why don't more people use it?

Which software you use to make audio recording ?

would like to know which is more used and the reason.

Thanks
I use two applications Adobe audition which to all intent and purpose is cool edit pro, the other application I use is cubase. I find Audition gives me quality editing and mastering facilities and Cubase gives me the option of using vst instruments with programming capibilities. My work have just bought a Yamaha Aw 16 tracker that I've got to get my head around over the coming weeks I will be using this as a portable solution to recording some of the students performances, I will probably edit on audition. The program I would like is Pro Tools, I've used it before and it knocks Adition into a cocked hat for editing but you do have to purchase extra effects in ra file format which is V poor, so if your Skint (HAVE NO MONEY) choose audition it supports vst effects.

protools if you are serious.

Come on, that's just hype... Pro Tools is great as a high end production system using PT TDM with the HD cards and the ICON console. But it's LE versions are like every other audio app out there. It's quite a selling hype for Digidesign IMO. I wouldn't use PT for any MIDI sequencing. I mean, it can do it but not like some other programs can.

I'm not talking shit, I do use pro tools for some things. But I think money can be much more well spent then buying a DIGI002 just to have PT.

I'm waiting for Tracktion2. It has all the capabilities that I need from PT with a lot more streamlined work environment. Right now my main bitch is Tracktion1.

Vegas 5.0 has been my bitch as of lately... and I am really liking the simplicity of it, and the ability to be comprehensive and advanced when I need it to be. The plugins suck though.

I can't remember if I responded to this thread, there's too many posts. Anyway, I had about 5 shots of Jaegar last and things started to get blurry halfway home.

Give me Samplitude over PT anyday

Amen brother! Forgive them Father, for they know not what great software they are missing. They worship a false idol.

I'm using an Alesis HD24 to record the direct outs(pre-fader, pre-EQ) from my Midas Venice 320.

Load to homebuilt PC - P4 3.2, 1gb ram, XP home, M-audio 2496, out to Yamaha MG10/2 to Event TR8's.

Mixing with N-Track Studio(4.04), Sonic Forge 8.0 for editing. Izotope Ozone 3 for pre-mastering.

Writing out with CD Architect 5.2 to a Sony DRU702 DVD-CDRW drive.

Works well for me.

I have been using Acid Pro for the last few years. I'm a huge fan of the interface and the ease of control. Kinda feels like home. Since i'm going to purchase the firepod, I'm moving over to Vegas for the multi-track recording.

I use the Kristal Audio Engine (free-bee)
Audacity (free-bee)
Soundforge 6.0d
the KX Project Drivers for my SB PCI512 card

And am a happy camper.......................
