I may have posted somewhere way back in this thread, I've gone though the following..

Cakewalk - Guitar Tracks
Cakewalk - Guitar Tracks Pro 2
Cakewalk - Sonar 2.2XL
Cool Edit Pro 2.1
Magix - Music Studio Deluxe 2004
Magix - Samplitude 6

And finally, SAWStudio, which IMO is about as close to a real console as I've ever seen in software, I only wish that I had bought it sooner, it would have saved me a LOT of money and time.

:)

just watched the example project videos on the SAW website. Pretty cool.

Audition 1.5 and cool edit pro are the most excellent pieces of software around for guys without six billion dollars like us :)

Or just save up to $500 and get Cubase SX or Sonar, :D

I got all of you beat!!!!!

Hold onto your seat cuz you're gonna be drooling at my outstanding setup here!!!!

I have a 486 133Mhz system with 256MB RAM. A 4MB Triton PCI Card and two 2.1GB drives. I'm running the latest - Cakewalk 2.0! I am recording using a Soundblaster 16! This sucker is schweet!

My Fostex 450 is a primo console as are my Shure Prologue microphones!

Okokokok.....yes, it's a joke. But can we get a more updated poll? lol

LMAO! That whole set-up is on my wishlist.

Hell yeah, we should start calling it cool edit pro tools ;)

the name is says it all, even with the adobe purchase....

I voted CEP, but actually am using Adobe Audition 1.5 to receive audio files from my digital recorder. Then I bring it into WaveLab 4.0 for final mastering. SOMEDAY, I'll skip the Adobe piece, but for now this is the path. I've looked at WaveLab 5, but it seems that the biggest thing that's been changed is the DVD piece, so at this point it's probably not worth the hassle of the upgrade.

I vote for Cool Edit / Audition. I use it for mixing.
I have an E-mu 1212m sound card that Audition wil not support for recording 8 tracks so I use my Fostex VF160 or Kristal.

I love Cubase. To me I can create a whole song from scratch. And I am somewhat fully with the end results of the stuff I make. There is no reason for me to branch out at this time.

Also Cubase has powerful editing/mixing features. I recommend it fully.

So is Cubase or Sonar better???

That is pretty much a matter of taste. I never used sonar to say if its worse or not, but I presume they will both give you similar benefits in the end result. :D

I started out using GarageBand because I have a Mac G4 and GB had just come out so I got it. I liked it for awhile but the quality and features could be a little better and so could the performance. So I'm switching to Logic, probably Express because it's cheaper.

I think this is a good question. I've read all the responses to get and idea for my own interest. Many people have explained their choice based upon cost. Others whether the program is User Friendly. Some based upon product specs and interface capabilities. For my product selection which is Cubase SX, I selected that due to the latter after seeing and hearing it in application on a friends system. I am however interested in moving up to something better someday and I think Pro Tools is probably the way I will go when I eventually have the funds.

Ha!
Forget all those non-pro used packages.
Where's Powertracks and Band in a Box?

Sonar 4 mostly, with Audacity for some tasks.

I'm looking around for something else. I don't care for Sonar's documentation and obscure features. All I want to do is make simple music. I'm not interested in recording an orchestra.

What I'm using

Kristal Audio Engine for tracking, Audacity for editing.

I just went through the entire post of software "cracking" and stuff. With all the good FREE programs out there now, why would anyone take the chance on "spyware" or worse.

And NO, I am not trying to start that old thread again.

I really need to take a look at N-Track, people seem to like it.
