Which software to use?

I have been using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for most of all the time I have been recording. I tried Adobe Audition but didn't like a few things, though my friend told me that it must have been a setting or something because he didn't have the problem I had. So maybe I could give it another chance. On the other hand the drummer in my band wants us to use Cakewalk's Sonar 7.

Which would you recommend?

Stick with Cool Edit Pro 2.0
Upgrade to Adobe Audition
Switch to Sonar 7
 
They're all going to get you there in the end it's just a matter of taste on which one you like using the best. Don't forget Reaper on that list. I've personally switched to reaper from being on Sonar for years.
 
Another vote for Reaper. I used CoolEdit for years- I switched to Reaper, and like it WAY better...
 
Reaper!!

I occasionally use Cubase, but I always end up back using Reaper.

Far cheaper and you can try it out with only a nag screen (fully functional, but worth the tiny $50 license fee.)
 
Reaper all the way! Wayyyy back in the day I did some songs in Audacity, then tried to work with Cubase for a while, but ever since I found Reaper there's no turning back
 
Reaper.
I just use the basics, and feel really confortable recording audio, working with MIDI & VSTi. Sometimes, I might use an FX VST (freeware)
This program can work well on many levels, for a home musician like me, it's perfect. I read the forums and the features it has and comparissons to Pro Tools, which Reaper has more intuitive features.
So baiscly, it works for a Plug-n-play type of guy like me, to someone who uses all the bells and whistles.
I like it so much, I never installed Cubase LE that came with my Zoom G7 ... why ?

I loved Sonar and Vegas, Reaper became my choice.

Until I switched to Apple, there was no point in using anything else. The quality of the plugs that come with it is really high too, pitch correction and Drumagog for free? Yes please.
 
Depending on your computer i would upgrade to
Adobe Audition 3.

I use Audition3 and its great, there is literly nothing this program cant do, or file it cant open.
 
Another vote for Reaper. Everything you need as a beginner and more - for only $50!
 
but reaper, can't use virtual instruments very well is it? I don't know, maybe is because i don't know how it works. But what i like is the kind of software that makes it easy by just plug in your midi keyboard, then choose an instrument and record. Garage band impressed me with that:)

You need to bring your own virtual instruments but apart from that, Reaper is much more advanced with VSTis than GarageBand.
 
I normally use Logic with my Mac but Garageband is actually powerful. There's a lot to it most users don't realize. By using AU plug-ins it'll do anything Reaper can...

Yeah, i heard garage band was quite powerful enough actually, and logic is one of the software i'm anxious to get my hands on, after i get a mac:D

But anyway, i really don't know about using VSTi with programs like reaper, cakewalk,live etc. Can somebody give some tips on it?:)
