there are so much recording software out there that i dont know which one to choose. the software is gonna be used for a rap album im workin and if you need any other details let me know. peace

Download some demo's and find one that suits you best.

I have downloaded a Cool Edit Pro 2.0, and I find it very easy to use. It seems to have decent features. I have also downloaded a demo for Sonar 2.0, but I am having trouble with it. It's a lot more complex, and I imagine I will want to use something like it eventually. However, right now I think I'm going to stick with Cool Edit Pro 2.0.

P.S. I am also very new to this stuff.

which one to choose

depends on what you're planning to do...
using midi? don't use cep
using loops? something like acid
etc. etc.
just take a look at the features of different products to see what is best for you.

IMO, I would choose Cubase SX, Logic 5-, Digi001 ProTools LE.

Do you have a Mac or PC?

With the ProTools Le (digi001), you get good software with very expensive plug-ins add-on's and a not so good of a sound card.

With Cubase SX and Logic 5 point whatever (even the 4.8 versions), you can choose VST plug-ins or DXI and you can choose your own soundcard (hope you choose M-audio), which will sound better then the Digi001's soundcard.

I would go with Cubase Sx (download the demo at http://service.steinberg.de/webdoc_ps_int.nsf/show/demos_applications_pro_pc_en (for Pc) ,or go with Logic (which does not have a demo).

If you need to actually record multiple tracks, I like Sonar 2.0 XL. Otherwise I believe Acid was already mentioned for great loops :D
