which should be mono on recording vocals: input, output or both?

Hi Dears,
I am having sonar 8.5 as a multitrack DAW and a sound card audiigy . I know that it is better for vocals to be recorded as mono not stereo but i don't know exactly which of them should be mono the input or the output or both. Thanks a lot.

Both mono and stereo tracks in a DAW usually have stereo outputs. Mono or stereo is referring to the source (input), not the output.
 
Correct. One mic = mono. You can pan it in the stereo field, or add stereo effects to it.
