Umm manning .... with respect, I'm very happy for you that you like Powertracks so much.
I, on the other hand, have no use for it's MIDI capabilities.
I don't do MIDI.
I do real musicians with real instruments.
The closest I will come to using MIDI is when a set of V-Drums is involved in the equation, that requires some replacement samples. I can even work around that in the audio realm with Drumagog.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Powertracks. It's just that much of it's feature set is of no use to me.
I'm quite comfortable with the assortment of programs I use and my work-flow within them.
So, you are correct .... I've never tried Powertracks and I don't foresee it ever happening.

peace.

I've only had one issue with my Terratec card. It was when I tried to input a digital coax signal from my Digitech Gnx3 guitar effects box. It would not work. I tried every setting possible. I know the digital input of the Terratec worked because I ran a CD recorder into just fine. I know the Gnx's output worked because I ran it into the CD recorder just fine. The two would not match up on the coax input.

Then I purchased one of these M-Audio's C02 converters. It changes coax to optical and back the other way. When I ran my Gnx3's coax into this C02 and came out with the Optical Digital into the Terratec it worked, go figure.

Anyway I think the sound quality of this Terratec is great. One of the reasons I purchased it was the I/O module that hooks up in the front bay of your computer. It has many different I/O options available.

I am very new to midi. I play all the instruments myself except for drums. As a song writer, the use of midi just opens up new possibilities. I would not just compose a song made up from a synth. Anyone can do that. I use other programs live Jammer 5 and Band in a Box to start my creative juices flowing.
Does that make sense?

thanks for the comments on the terratec steve.
i'll pass on the comments to friends.
your set up makes lots of sense to me.
youve got a great songwriters set up. tons of flexibility for generating new song ideas.
i dont know how you are for mics, but any beyer mic ive ever tried has never disappointed.
peace.

I've been using a Neumann mic for vocals and I think it's an AT4040 or 20 (I can't remember the number) for instruments.

nice mics steve. at is audio technica,.
if you need more mics check out the cad gxl for 50 bucks.
not bad for the money. also if you have the bucks i urge you to try crown pzm sometime. very versatile.

Ya know, I'm an old tape guy and have tried many software demos and a pirate CEP ( which I could never get to sync tracks ) and am like you....alone in my room trying to record a drum machine, bass , guitars...vocals....ect......
I wanted something that was as easy to use (almost) as a tape deck and finally found it.
After you get done looking at your replies, which end up being a pissing contest about what program and which soundcard.....go ahead and get this one......it took me ( stupid ) about 7 minutes before was layin down tracks...very easy.... FREE......16 tracks, effects, mixdown.....ect..
Get it ......
