Hello friends. I heard that cubase 5 likes to be with Pentium processors. Any views on this please??

Generally, Intel processors are a better route. AMD has some good products but you will have to research your hardware very carefully (soundcard, videocard etc). Many people run AMD processor based DAW's with no problems. Research is the key. Software is not as critical, but I have run into some extremely strange problems with particuliar softwares on certain AMD processors. Most manufacturers of both hardware and software, gear their products towards and Intel environment. VIA, AMD, ALI, or whoever happens to be making the chipset of the day then follow suit.

Unfortunately, the problems are usually addressed bit by bit, patch by patch, case by case. By the time all the bugs are worked out, you've already upgraded to something else. It's unfair to the consumer, but this has been the scenario for years. I don't want to come off as "pro-intel", but with something as particuliar and specialized as a DAW, or a machine designed for video (DVW?) it's best to stay on the safe side. That's my theory anyway.

Processors

Hi Emeric, thanks for your views. I`m putting a PC together and my supplier thought a Celeron would be fine. He thought it would be ok for music making, but I suspect he meant on a MIDI basis only. I get the feeling that for Audio work the Pentium is recommended. I`m going for the Pentium anyway. Slinky..

Celeron's are fine as well, more than fine - no problem. I was using an overclocked Celeron @450MHz for a year and half, 20+ track songs, real time processing. Only reason I'm using PIII is for higher MHz(more stable plug-in power -more is more right?), but the Celerons are getting up there to - 733MHz. The current Celerons will work just great for audio and MIDI.

Hi Emeric. The Celeron is a lot cheaper than the PIII and you sound confident in its ability. I`ve been told the Pentiums are overpriced, and that was the guy in the sales dept. Well, it`s decision time. Thanks for your views....... Slinky.

Don't use the Pentium IV unless you are willing to wait on more stable ASIO drivers for your audio card. It is a disaster. Read my stuff in the Cakewalk boards, and others as well. Also look at some of the problems that people are experiencing with MOTU interfaces and the PIV on the MOTU boards.
