Which processor is faster?

I have been given a new (to me) computer with a 3ghz Pentium 4 processor. I have been using a different tower with a 2.2 or 2.4 (I can't remember for sure which right not) AMD Athelon Processor. I would like to get rid of one of the towers, or at the very least not have to have both hooked up at all times, but I need the hd from both. One for school and one for recording. would there be any noticeable difference in speed between the two machines? I will be running 32 bit OS on both.

It would depend on the RAM. Keep the one with more of the faster RAM. You can always add, but if one has PC3200 and the other has PC2700, keep the 3200. One of these days I will get smart about overclocking, and throw a whole new monkey wrench into what computer works 'best' for recording, but for now, I always go with the faster RAM, and not necessarily the 'most' RAM. You can set up more virtual RAM and disable indexing to get some speed 'back', but you are limited to the transfer rate anyway, so go big!

Well thanks! I looked at their benchmarks, and the AMD is just a little faster. And it looks like both use the same ram, so I'll pry just use the one with the AMD and move the HD and ram from the other. Thanks again!
