pretty much decided on getting one of the firewire interfaces from presonus

either the fp 10 or firestudio project

what are the main pros and cons apart from gain leds and a/d/a (firestudio project)

Go with the firestudio project, it has better monitoring options. You can pair it with other units in the firestudio line as well.

Go with the project. Everything about is better. I/O Expansion A/D/A, Monitoring, LED Metering. I own the project and a buddy of mine owns the FP10 and the Project is noticeably better.

With an order of magnitude less jitter, it damn well oughtta be noticible!

Fair warning: The whole FireStudio line uses the DICEII chipset. If it works, it's great, if it doesn't...you're outta luck.

The FP10's use the BeBoB(?) chipset. Same as the Firebox. Much more stable (driver-wise).

Like I said, if the chipset on the firestudio works with your machine, great. From all the rumbling I've heard, it's about a 50-50 chance.
