I have been working in my new home studio for a little while with out a mixing board. We have been running 4 M-AUDIO audio buddy 2 channal pres http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/AudioBuddy-main.html into a MOTU 828mkII http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/828/body.html/en. We have found that since most of what we do is post edited in Logic, we don't really need a mixing board. A couple of days ago one of our good friends was getting rid of an Alesis Studio32 board, and gave it to us. I have a few questions that need to be answered before I can do anything else.

1. How is the quality on the M-AUDIO audio buddy pre. and how does it compare to the pres on the Alesis.

2. Is the Alesis a nice board and has anyone used it in the past or heard of any good or bad comments on it.

3. Should I have posted this here or not, and if not where should I post it?

If anyone could get back even just with you should post this somewhere else, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

As far as comparing the two preamps, your opinion is as valuable as anyone elses; compare the two and decide for yourself. You might find one noisier that the other, one might find that one of them seems more colored or hyped in certain freq bands, the eq might sound more 'musical' in one, or maybe you'll decide that they are both fine, but best suited to different instruments.

I don't know anything about the Alesis board in general.

Your post here is fine, you could also post it in either the RACK or OTHER EQUIPMENT forum - don't post both places though.

Good luck.

Not to confuse things further but you should also compare the M-Audio and the Alesis to the built-in preamps that come with the MOTU 828. You may actually find that your best signal path is direct through the 828.
