I just bought a pair of Shure KSM27s and a pair of M-audio Pulsar II mics and am wondering which would be best to use as OHs for the drums? If I use the KSM27s I will use one Pulsar for the hi hat, and if i use the Pulsars I will use a SM57 on the hi hat, i think? I'm not really sure... The mics I have for mic'ing drums: 2 KSM27s, 2 M-audio pulsar IIs, 3 SM57s, 1 Beta 52a. What is the best configuration? I want to mic every part of the drum set, including toms.

Thanks :)

You are probably opening a can of worms because everyone here will disagree on which way to use them. Either pair will work well for overheads. The KSM27's will probably sound the fullest and the smoothest on top end. But then, the pulsars are no slouch either. Compare them and see.

You never mentioned how many toms you have. I was never that fond of using SM57's on toms but that's just me. (I would buy about three more KSM27's for them as well. :D)

There are lots of different configurations you could try. I say experiment. Try them all and see which way you like best.

I'm going to be recording just a standard set with 3 toms. I guess I will try out both pairs as OHs.

I would try both in different positions to see which one YOU think sounds the best. I haven't been on these forums long but one theme I see alot from guys on here is to trust your own ears.
Just my 2c.
