hey guys i want to get new monitors and i was thinking to pick ONE PAIR of those listed here:

Event PS5 Project Studio Monitors Pair
Event 20/20 Monitors (E8) Pair (not the BAS version)
Behringer B2031 Truth Active Studio Monitors (Pr)
Alesis Monitor 1 Active mk2 Biamp Monitors (Pr)
KRK V4 Studio Monitors PairTannoy
Reveal Nearfield Monitors Pair

Can you guys help me picking ones? I have read so many reviews and most of them say to buy Event 20/20bas but the bas version is toooooo expensive... I was thinking about getting NEAR-FIELD MONITORS which ones are the best in the price of 500$ a pair... THANKS!

my first choice would be Tannoy Reveals and then the 20/20's....

I would go with the Event 20/20 Monitors, and then the Alesis. That's just because they are the only ones that I've heard, but of the ones I have heard, that's the order I would put them in.

Another vote for the 20/20's.

I got 'em (20/20bas) and I love 'em! ;)

i'd get the the event 20/20's or the Behringer truths...i've had better sounding mixes on the truths than the mackies.

Yo Gkowal of Lawokg:

You can save yourself a whole bunch of pezzutos by buying a passive pair of Yorkville monitors.

They work very well for most folks. If you have a studio where you are charging and making money, then go for the high priced spread.

I like quality products but as long as the Yorkvilles do the job, I have several hundred more pezzutos to spend on whatever.

:D :D :p :p :p :p

I'll second that Yorkville recommendation. Probably the best monitor for the money.

Gotta run with Reveals.

See Gidge I do respect your opinions:)

20/20

yep....I got the powered version....cant be much different with a decent power amp. I like em!

I love the Event 20/20s, but whatever you do, do NOT buy any of the Event PS series.

I went through 2 sets (both the PS 5 and PS 8) when I was starting out, and they are terrible-a waste of money-I sent both back, but I could not have been happier when I finally went ahead and got the 20/20 bas pair.

A perfect, all around monitor.

Hmmm - I disagree... I've used and heard both the PS-series and the 20/20s -- there is very little difference between them except for more low-end response on the 20/20s... mids and high-end are almost identical with the overall sound having a slightly mids-sucked-out quality - not enough to make them unusable, but certainly adds to the learning curve.

And neither of them even come close to the KRK V8s! (but YMMV....)

Take those reviews with a grain of salt (as you should with all reviews) -- I, for one, disagree with almost all of Rowan's assessments....

Anyways, you listen to monitors with your ears, NOT someone else's opnion.

Bruce

I agree, but they can help to provide a starting point.

What monitors would you recommend trying?

Ha!

Actually, I'd start listening with Tannoy Reveals, then compare others in your price range to them...

If you have more money to throw at it, start with Mackie 824s or KRK V8s and compare others in that price range.

It's really all about listening and HEARING ones that "grab you"!
