I am getting a new computer to use strictly as a DAW. It will be an AMD Athlon XP based system. I will being using an Aardvark Q10 with it. I'm getting the computer for very cheap, so my choices are fairly limited. Should I go with the ECS K7S5A Socket A, ECS K7VMM, ASUS A7N266-VM, ASUS A7V333, ABIT KR7A-RAID 266, or the KT266A Socket A?

Suggestions and opinions would be very helpful.

I think for now you should go for m/b which support DDR333 Ram. That means m/b should equipped with VIA KT333 chipset (If you go for VIA chipset).

ECS is cheap. But for performance, I'd recommend Abit. While Asus is good but its price is usually higher than the others.

I always suggest that folks call the sound card tech guys to get their opinion of the best mobos. Sometimes a great mobo for one card may just not play nice with another card. I'd try Ben at Aardvark: 734-665-8899 and get his input.

I have the Q10 and got a new mobo about three months ago. At that time, Aardvark tech support strongly recommended the Gigabyte GA-7Dx. I got this mobo and am very happy with it. I actually got the "plus" version which allows extra ram and has a faster bus. I'm not sure if this mobo can handle the Athlon XP chip, but it is worth looking in to.
