Hello, i have been recording music at home for a little while now, however this is a pretty noobish question...
Basically i have been recording with a behringer eurorack UB802 by simply connecting it from the tape out to the line input on my pc.
I would like to start recording drums though, and this will obviously require more than two xlr inputs...I will probably buy about 7 mics for drum recording and i am a bit unsure as to which mixer to buy. Idealy i don't really want my budget to go over around £250 and there are a few mixers i have thought of buying:

Peavey PV14 USB mixer
Behringer Xenyx X2222USB Mixer
(mabye a second hand?)Yamaha MG166C Mixer

Would a usb mixer be good for recording drums or would it not be able to record more than one track at once? If so would something cheaper like a 16 channel Gear4music mixing board be okay for just running through the line input? Also what are the benefits of recording via usb rather than straight to the line input?
I mostly use Magix's Samplitude Music Studio 14 for software

Oh yeah...I've also recently got this Edirol ua-101 soundcard, which may be of use...I've installed the driver (but not the sonar software...is it worth installing?) but i'm not getting any results from it and i have no idea how to use it. Would it help for recording drums?

Any help appreciated, Thanks! =D

If you run mics > mixer > interface, all the drum "tracks" will be on one track. You wont have any way of editing individual drums sounds. I think your best bet would be to cut your mic count from 7 to 4-5, sell your current interface, and use the 250 that you had saved up and go buy a Firepod, ZoomR16, or some other interface with ~8 inputs.

Let me go get some links and I'll be right back.

Here is the Firepod link at musicians friend. I don't know if they do internation sales or not, but Im sure someone accross the pond sells them.

It is a little over your budget, but like I said, if you sell your current interface, it would equal out to about where you wanted to be price wise. But, it wont leave any money for mics, so it's a bit of a dilemna. Maybe this helps. If not, someone with more experience with different gear can point you in the right direction.

Thanks mate
Although that is an expensive interface, you've saved me from wasting money by buying something i dont need!

There may be something more in your price range, but I only have experience in presonus products. Mainly because I've researched them to death and my friend uses them. I'll look around at some gear sites later and get you some more info after work.

I wuz gunna link to the US 1641 on Amazon, but it's jumped back up to 300 plus.

Thanks guys =D
I'm glad i asked now because this has been really useful!
I think i'll try and get the TASCAM US-1641 if it would let me mix each track individually on my pc :D
And thanks again for stopping me wasting £250 on a mixer that i wouldn't use ;)
