I'm buying a tascam sound card with phantom power. I want to record analogue signals only ie no midi etc. I'll probably direct inject my bass, so I need a mike thats good for voice and guitar.

How much should I spend? The mic I'm looking at is about 270$ USD, is this about right, or is there a cheaper mic you can get that does the job?

There are a bunch of inexpensive mics talked about all over this form. Unless there is a big flaw in a mic, it's not better or worse just slightly diffrent. You might like the way a Studio Projects B1 records your voice very much.(For about 100 bucks) You will almost always have to mold the sound into the thing you want, with , equalizer, filters and effects .... after it's in your computer. No matter what microphone you have. Get cheap before expensive, is my advise.

Can a cheap Microphone really be any good? you ask.

20 years ago , no. ... Only a very few studio quality mics were made and sold , very limited market. The developers worked long and hard to invent great mics.

Well... the Patents have all ran out. and the Market has exploded by a factor of about a million.

A company now can take that $5.00 worth of metal (including the gold) and make a very good replica of one of thoses "Great"mic's ... because the demand is so high . Every body and his brother has a home recording strudio. (I heard that there are about 6 billion people now)
