k sooo i want to get a wicked mic for a good price! i am only useing it for vocals ( rap and screamo to be specific )
either the
AKG 220
AKG 420
OR the Audio Technica 4040

i want good quality, the AKG 220 is only like $178
and the AKG 420 is $280
is there much difference in quality with those?
and the 4040 is $400
so should i pay for the quality or should i stick with the AKG 220

if anyone get help me with this that would be great!! :)

How will you be using the mic...voice, acoustic guitar, amp cab etc. and will it be for live use or remote/studio recording?

You might want to think about a Shure SM7. Great for screamo/heavy rock stuff but also used by guys like Michael Jackson and John Mayer.

If you have the chance, audition them to see which one suits your voice the best. Sweetwater Sound has a liberal return policy, so you may be able to audition if you don't have a local dealer.

that sucks tho cause i dont think there is a way i can test them out.
i have kinda a DMX sounding voice so its ruffer ,
and i need to get a mic that will not pic up that ruff sound as much
i had a c1ou and that was horrrible for my vocals i hated it

but im only going by these 3 mics, im scared the 4040 will have to sharp of quality where it will pick up the ruffness of my vocals.
is there a big difference in quality between the AKG 220 and the 420?? cause id spend the extra 100 to get that plus i only got a tascam us-122mkII should i also upgrade that ??

dunno
rap and screamo really don't need high end mikes imho
you can buy an sm58 for $100 or so
you can buy a chinese knockoff of the 58 for $30 or so

what are you using now?
what shortcomings do you think that that mike has ?

what is your budget?
how bad will you hurt if you buy it and don't like it?

hm I'd stay away from the cheaper AT mics. They start sounding good at around the AT4047 or AT4050, but below that, they arent the best. I wouldnt get the lower end AKG stuff either. In fact, I've never been into AKG mics at all. Once I owned an AKG 414 ($1,000 new) and my MXL v69 ($99) sounded just as good. For cheap amazing mics, try a Studio Projects C1, or even better an original Rode NT2. The Rode NT2 sounds absolutely amazing. You can get one off ebay for incredibly cheap.
