Im thinking I need at least two channels for doing drums...one on the snare and one on the kick. Other than that I usually track the rest of my shit individually. Any advise?
Not to appear unhelpful, but this topic really is discussed quite a bit in the Rack forum. You're question is very open-ended, too. There are lots of pres in that price range... About the best I could do is list them- and that really wouldn't help too much.
Good idea going for a dual pre, though, in that price range. I love my Art Tube Dual MP- it rocks to have two identical pres when recording anyting in stereo. Necessary, even.
I've also heard a lot of good stuff about the DMP3 over at www.midiman.com- I've never used it, though.
I think our band has found an idea to solve all the preamp, board, digital and tube problems.
We are just going to build one huge tube, maybe the size of say a sparklets water cooler bottle. We will then send eveything through that. We figure that will warm the sound up on everything, it will also be used to heat our control room, practice area, as well as provide light and heat for cooking.
Brian,if you tube emits enough light, you can use it to grow chronic.Smoke the buds and convert the leaves to methanol to power your van to get to gigs!
