Which LDC would you use to bludgeon DJL with?

I haven't read the mic forum in a while, and I guess I'm not surprized to see DJL on his mission of spewing bullshit (disclaimer- there is an occasional fact he'll add so keep your eyes peeled for that too).

That said, I really like my C1 on a lot of vocalists, but haven't hit anyone over the top of the head with it yet. Has anyone tried this?

I've also always wanted an EV RE20, do you think it would leave a more colored indentation on his ignorant skull than my C1 would? I'm sure someone has used the EV for such an instrument in a radio station somewhere. Maybe Howard Stern.

How does proximity effect apply here? I'm under the impression that a chinese mic can sound every bit as good as a german or american made mic as it careens off of his empty noggin. Really the sound is coming mostly from the hollow shell that is his skull anyway, the mic is just a tool. (well OK DJL is a tool also).

Just thought I'd add to the intellegent discussion here for DJL to obsess about.

Carry on. Or better yet, go record something.

My mic can beat up your mic. Nanynanynany.

Lately DJL has been good about giving useful information. Yeah, the whole SP thing still sets him off, but as long as you don't provoke him he's fine.

I suggest this thread gets deleted before it becomes another stupid flame war.

you haven't read the mic forum in a while, so you come back and post something dull and self-righteous. sped.

Why should we have subjects we're not allowed to discuss because someone requires so much attention?

WHy rant about DJL, just cuz he's honest about certain mics. He's like the little kid that saw the emporer had no clothes on and said something about it.

I have a C! and it's pretty mediocre at best.

That being said, the best bludgeoning mic would have to be a B.L.U.E. Bottle. Ever seen how big those things are?

Hahahaha ... he ain't honest about shit ... he's never used a damn thing in his life. Last week he claimed he built his first recording studio when he was 4. In the past he's claimed to have been middle-aged, now he reckons he's 36.

He's like the little kid alright, but the emperor is irrelevant.

As for the mics ... to be honest, I couldn't care less. I wouldn't take advice off some random anonymous person on the net anyway. It takes time to work out whether you trust someone's advice or not.

DJL comment aside, I'd have to go with an M-Audio Solaris. These things must weigh a couple of pounds apiece. Even better than plain old bludgeoning is plugging in a 10-15ft. XLR cable (make sure it clicks in really solid) and get some good old centripetal/centrifugal forces going on, and then clocking someone with it. They'll do some pretty serious damage!

4? wow. was he a child prodigy? maybe a savant? 36 is middle aged if you live til 72.

I don't know the guy, I just notice people freak out when someone says an SP mic sucks

People freak out when other people make outrageous claims. This applies both ways and those of us who sit in the middle get tired of being used as fodder in the arguments.

You are an SP fan and you've recently spent a bunch on SP stuff so for someone to say something that would be contrary or derogatory to your decision would naturally offend you. You naturally are biased, totally understandable.

I can only talk about the 2 sp products that I own, a C1 and B1 and I think they are mediocre, not hideously bad but definitely not great.

Actually, in all fairness, Don fixed this later -- it was a typo.

He corrected it to say he was 14 when he build his first studio with his father, IIRC.

Now let's all go a do something more sensible, such as making music ;-)

Nah, that's a mere 1.4 pounds.

I know it's not a condenser, but the Nady RSM-2 ribbon weighs in at a whopping 2.75 pounds. Even better, it screws directly onto the mic stand with a permanently mounted holder. This makes it much more effective when swung. :D

Nothing against DJL, but the subject of a mic as a blunt object, chair leg, or other utilitarian purpose is inherently funny....

I'm a fan of the people and I take the gear on a piece by piece basis. I don't have hands-on experience of the B1 or C1 so I couldn't care less. Thing is, DJL doesn't have hands-on experience either, that was proved way back when.

A lot of other people here don't have hands-on experience with a lot of stuff, yet they seem to give their opinion on it anyways.

Now for people who own companies that might come here to market.......

I say bludgeon DJL with the Studio Projects C1. :D

ROFL, I wonder is that qualifies for irony, cuz I know rain on a wedding day and a fly in my chardonay are not ironic

I always found it ironic that there is no trace of irony in that song.

the RE20 is a dynamic, not a LDC

:D

I stand corrected, I'd think that would have to be the best dynamic for a bludgeoning.

You guys crack me up. Glad I could honor DJL's legacy with this thread.

My reputation just went from 3 to 0, on this thread alone! So much for street cred.

Now to politic, if you like the way this thread makes you feel, hook me up some rep points! Haha.

Carry on my wayward sons...
