Which is better in a vocal recording, a dynamic mic or a condenser one?

I want to know please which is better in a vocal recording, a dynamic mic or a condenser one?

Typically, condensor mics are going to be better. But you could have a $500 dynamic that sounds better than a $99 condensor, too .... It's all in technique, recording environment, etc.
 
Green mics sound best. Unless recording on Tuesday. In that case, bright orange.

...seriously though. Off the top of my head - recordings by Micheal Jackson, John Mayer, Incubus, tons and tons of hard rock and metal vocals (Metallica and Slayer included), RHCP, U2 (in Abbey Road, even), Green Day and a crapload of other vocalists did extremely well commercially and were done with dynamics. The rest....you know... weren't. There is no real answer to this question.

@KidKage - it only takes one neg rep to make it look that way if you don't have any positive ones.
 
I'd say typically condensors. But if you room sucks, you'll probably get a better result with a dynamic cuz it's less sensitive and wont pick up so much of the 'room'.
 
The mojave audio ma200 (?) seems popular. 57 reviews and 5 stars.

But after hearing how amazing sm81s are, I think my next mics gonna be an sm7b. And its a dynamic.
 
I have a pair of MA100s that I use to record acoustic guitar. I have nothing bad to say about Mojave Audio... Good stuff.

But for vocals? :-) It's difficult to argue w/German engineering. Neumann, you can't go wrong... But you gotta pay the piper..
 
There's no mic thats better. They have different characteristics that you'd want to use in different environments and situations
 
Tough to give an accurate answer without setting some parameters. How about this as a rough guide:

Small room, small budget: AKG D5 (dynamic mic). The best deal I've seen recently is from DV247 £65 for the mic AND a mic stand. Excellent value, excellent mic, imho.

Bigger room, bigger budget: AT 2035. £150 ish. Arguably, the best value 'all round' condenser mic you can buy.

Generally speaking, both these mics tend to suits most vocalists.

Having said that: If you have the money (unless you're recording in a REALLY small room with no acoustic treatment) I'd buy the AT 2035.....because you'd have to spend a lot more money to get a mic that would be substantially 'better'.
