Which is a better choice for my purpose?

For the price of 700 bucks (canadian dollars) I can either build a pretty good PC, or buy a Mac mini (with the Intel core). I do just simple recording with my band (drums, vocals, 1 guitar, 1 bass , 1 piano). I'm not trying to start the argument of Mac v.s. PC here, but i was just wondering for my purposes, which would be a better choice? building the PC, or buying the Mac mini? Also, if it helps, I use a Presonus Inspire 1394 and a Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer, a Studio Projects B1, an Apex 430, an AKG D 3300, and Cubase LE.
 
Totally my opinion here:

I don't think it makes much difference, and it ends up being your own choice. The PC, to me, has the advantage that you can expand it over time more easily, adding better chips, cards etc. The Mini is cool and probably overall a better machine + GarageBand is great.

I keep getting tempted by a mini but in the end I think you can get more PC and more expandability for the future with the PC, I don't consider the MINI to be a machine built for serious music recording as some of the higher end mac's are.

All my opinion, very few facts included :)
 
I feel that Macs and PCs are converging to the point where the only thing that makes people say one is better than the other is the cultural difference.

I'm not sure what it's like in the states, but the only people here in Aus that have Macs are:
a) Peolpe that "grew up" with them, and hence kept buying them
b) High-end users that bought macs when they had a clear advantage for high-end purposes
c) Wankers who want to look like they're high-end users.

Unfortunatley, the percentage is about 10% a, 30% b and 60% c... maybe more...

The only real difference is the software availability and the upgrade ability. Whilst the majority of audio software will run on both platforms, the Macs still drag a bit in the "recreational" side of things, like games. I know that shouldn't be a deciding factor, but I sure as hell know that I'm going to stay with my PC, simply for the fact that if my mix is giving me the shits, I can fire up some FPS and blow some stuff up.
 
Probably doesn't matter or figure into the equation here, but........ever go in to a software store and notice that there is usually severals shelves of PC software and one for Mac? Or go to circuit city or best buy, comp usa and look for parts?

Adobe software, was originally designed for the New York times as publishing software for their newspaper. It was totally designed for the Mac. It has slowly evolved over the past 25 years to where it probably sells more copies made for PC than MAC. On the hardware side, SCSI drives were designed the same way for the same purpose. Don't see many of them anymore either. I have two SCSI cards on the closet shelf that I'm hoping will be of antique value someday. ;)

If it's the music that matters, then fine....either one will probably do the job.....but, Pc's are easier to expand personally by yourself. I have yet to buy a computer that I didn't want to enlarge or do something else with later.

Your original statement of....."I do just simple recording with my band (drums, vocals, 1 guitar, 1 bass , 1 piano)" will probably change two weeks after you buy or build.

I think you back that up because it lets you add and upgrade parts later in a way you cannot do with an Apple
