Which hardware sequencer???

I prefer using a hardware sequencer for live use. I have been messing around at home with a yamaha QX21. Whie I think it's fine for home use, it is not the best for live use in my opinion. So I am looking at three options for hardware right now.

1. I can get a used yamaha rmx-1 for around $200-$250
2. I can get a used Alesis MMT-8 for around $75
3. I can buy a new electribe es1 mkii for $279

Ideally, I would prefer one with good drum sounds for electronica production. But a sequencer that is good for live creation and looping (with no pauses) is the most important. I don't want to spend more than around $250. Any suggestions/reccomendations? Thanks.

I had two MMT8s and loved them, but it might not be a good choice. It has a 20000 note limit, no sounds and no patterns. It also doesnt do step recording for some strange reason. I dont know how many songs it stores, but with a 20,000 note limit ( I think?) it wont be many.

I did a version of La Villa Strangiato by Rush. I had to save half of it to data tape and record what was on the mmt8, load the data tape and record the rest. That didnt even include the melody. It was a complex, classicalish version but still, that should give you an idea of how limited the memory is.

What type of music?

I would really recommend the RM1x. I used to have one and I wish I never sold it.

Awesome interface easy to program. Rock solid. The sounds are just OK not bad for a rompler but as far as a hardware sequencer goes you can't beat it.

I have been tossing around the idea of either getting a looper pedal or a rm1x/electribe for a while, and I think I'm going with the looper for the sake of my live solo acts.
 
It ain't the same thing.

dotcom modules are based on Bob Moogs' original designs.

While that DIY project may do decent sequencing, it's obvious it cannot match the versatility of the dotcom setup.
 
Only one sequencer and one filter are based on Bob's designs...everything else is pure Roger Arrick. :D
...and a dotcom, though wonderful (I've owned them - good stuff!), is anything but flexible or versatile...for that you need one of these: http://www.carbon111.com/serge.html ...which has my favorite sequencer of all time, the TKB.
 
sorry to "steal this thread", but does anyone have a good resource to introduce analogue sequencing? it looks like something i'd be interested in, but i also think i'd need to start Right From The Beginning... i have a reasonable understanding of synthesizers, if that helps? :o

Not so fast, the 961 and 962 are also based on Moogs' original design.:)
