Which Firewire interface?

hey guys. i've been on the hunt for a firewire interface for my Macbook Pro using Logic 9 Pro. I plan on micing up drums, guitars, and vocals. So i know i need something with 8 preamps. I've been looking at Presonus stuff, the M-Audio Profire 2626, and the new Mackie Onyx Blackbird. I'm not looking to spend more than $500. I will buy used if needed. Just wanted to get some of you guy's feedback on which would be best, or if you have any other recommendations, let me know!
 
have a look at the an m-audio fast track ultra 8r (usb2). latency is low, price is low, sounds good, good features, no messing around with firewire troubleshooting. besides, the profires have an issue with sample/timing accuracy. i have the ultra (not 8r), and it's a solid little box. i wish this thing existed when i first started with the computer recording stuff. it would have saved me a lot of time and money.
 
IMO the Focusrite Saffire PRO 40 has to be one of the best firewire interfaces on the market. With 8 channels of Focusrite's amazing mic pre's, and then 10 outputs it's very versatile.
Also 2 of the headphone outs can have mixes independent from each other.
And if you decide 8 channels isn't enough it has ADAT for expandability.

You really can't go wrong with it. It is B-Stock, but mine came just like a new unit:

i use logic 9 and a presonus firestudio. works great for me.

I know you said you didn't want to spend more than $500 however, if I were you I'd save up for a bit longer till I could affoard a Steinberg mr816x.

The sound that comes out of this thing is significantly better than some of the other cheap interfaces, its right up there with the FF800 - In my opinion ofcourse.


I think you would be able to get one second hand for $500-575ish come to think of it
 
I use the Profire 2626 and its great and it is also compatible with pro tools. Its a really good system I definantly recommend it
 
I'm running an M-Audio Profire 610. 4 inputs, 8 outs, midi. I've never, ever had an issue with it. It's built like a tank.
 
Can't really go wrong with a Presonus Firestudio. I have one and haven't had any problems with it.
