Which Digital recorder can do these things?

I have only a rudimentary idea of the correct terminology, but I'm looking for a digital recorder that can:

  • Provide Phantom Power to a MIC
  • Load a pre-recorded Stereo track into digital memory from a digital source
  • Provide Reverb effect to MIC input
  • Record MIC input while monitoring reverb effect in real time through the headphones (along with the pre-recorded Stereo Track)
  • Mix/Master the recorded Vocal track with the Pre-loaded Stereo track
  • Bounce the mixed Track to a Stereo track
  • Provide for some form of digital transfer, ZIP disk, Compact Flash, CD-R, USB to a computer.

If that isn't clear, Here's another way of explaining what I'm looking for:
  • I want to be able to plug my MIC straight into the recorder without any extra boxes (the recorder provides phantom power)
  • I want to be able to load a stereo recording into the recorder from a digitized source, like from a USB port, CD, CF card, or ZIP drive.
  • I want to be able to apply reverb to the MIC input from the recorder
  • I want to be able to hear the reverb effect and the playback track through the headphones while I'm singing.
  • I want to be able to mix the two tracks together, master them, maybe apply some treatments/effects and transport the resulting digital recording via USB, CF Flash, CD-R or ZIP (any digital transfer method)

I know the BOSS BR1180 can do all that, but I don't need all those inputs/tracks/drums/etc. and I'd rather not have to pay so much for features I won't ever use.

Is there a product out there that will do these things less-expensively than the BR1180?

I think the cheaper ways to do it all involve another box. Hell, I can do with my PXR4 Pandora, everything you listed, *except* provide phantom power. A battery powered mic solves that problem for me, or a phantom power supply, or a preamp. One option would be Zoom MRS802CD, $700 at 8th street. It won't export your tracks directly, but you can rip the data from a CD and process it any way you want to, although the zoom unit's processing capabilities are impressive. Where I find such units (all of the sub-$4000 standalones ) unimpressive, is the preamps. Any of these units, including BR1180 will sound better with an outboard preamp.-Richie

which recorder

I have a Zoom 16 and 8 track. The MRS-802 can be purchased at Sweetwater :(on line) for 599.95. It will do about all you ask. The only reason I have a 16 is I needed more inputs. The 8 has only 2. The manual is pretty easy (but 171 pages) in all. Wish we were close, the 8 is just sitting here.

Soundz like you be a rapper dude who gonna lay sum bomb trax in D Miner....sup!!

Buying everything separetly can lead to an expensive tab and creative draw backs when you're missing a component...Compare all the items you need individually, add them up and if it cost more than the 1180...then the answer is no. Check out ebay constantly if you're comfortable with that, there's sometimes and a depressed guy selling everything he owns, or an angry wife.
