i'm 16, from ontario, canada, and i currently just use a BR 864, and an audio capture device to capture the output onto my computer, in MP3.

now i've got to know the BR864, i think it's time to upgrade to something more complex, like cubase.

Firstly, for my level, what cubase do i need? and are there any better than cubase? maybe more user friendly programs?

also i need to know exactly how to set this all up. do i need a soundcard? how do i connect a mixer to the soundcard? and what mixer do i need?

thanks for any help that comes along :)

there are "better" programs out there than cubase... but really... 99% of people in the industry will not experience any lack of power...
cubase SE is the most value for the money if you're just beginning... in a few years you can upgrade, and it'll cost you less bucks than buying a new program...
check out the demo and see if you like it... you will need a soundcard, yes, (you should have one already, or something is seriously wrong...)

... and what the hell is an audio capture device? :D

thanks for the help, i'll now save myself some money by not buying cubase SX....a bit too advanced....

and an 'audio capture device' is my fancy term for a sound recorder :D

Hello,

I strongly recommend you to take a look to N-track Studio. (www.fasoft.com) You will find also a nice forum in here about this sofware.

Congrats about the BR 864. Nice toy. As far as I know you don't need a sound card now. The tracks are downloaded to the PC via a digital output of the BR.
Then, you can copy and paste the tracks from your file to your sofware.

A reliable audio editing/ sequencer program will give many extra features the BR 864 don't have by itself. Therefore, much more fun. Check the option I just gave to you.

Good luck,

Alejo.

I highly reccomend that you go spend $30 at your nearest mega bookstore and buy the book "Cubase SX Power". It will teach you ALOT about how to run Cubase in general. About 85% of the book will also apply to Cubase SE.
