-alesis midiverb 3 or 4
-lexicon mpx 100
-other reccomendations in that price range?

Hey John,
You might wanna ad the RNC compressor to your list. At $175.00 it's a excellent deal.

if it was my $$$ , from those choices id get the Behringer compressor and the mpx100.....

The Blue Max suprised me. It is great for the $$. Due to it not having control over threshold I would pass on it for a first compressor. The Composer Pro is cool. You would be suprised how often they show up in pro live sound racks (I mean pro too). I would get Composer, then Blue Max, and then the RNC. I picked this way because the Composer is two channel or stereo. The RNC is only single channel or stereo along with the Presonus. The Blue Max is cool because it has some color to it. The RNC is cool because it is transparent. It really depends on what you use them on.

I would get the Lexi over any Alesis verb. A used Yamaha SPX 90 would be good too.

drawmer mx30 the drawmer sound for less than 200 bucks s/h
warm yet quite transparent even at high compression settings.
very good unit. also includes a noise gate + limiter unit. VERY useful as a recording chain or at the output of a mixing desk. I use it on all my takes the limiter is quite usefull and allows me to yield the maximum out of any A/D converter. (basically it allows u to reduce headroom quite significantly and therefore increase the digital resolution of your recorded signal)
