I'm looking to make myself a new computer and I'm probably going to start out with buying a new Intel Core Duo E6300 and stick it in an Antec P180 case.

That's all I've decided so far.

Now for $100-$150, what would be the best soundcard I can get for home recording?

Here's some you could consider, in broad terms.. Idk what you really need in terms of functions & I/O's but here's a small list starting from cheapest first (from musicians friend)

M-Audio 24/96 $99
Lexicon Alpha USB Audio Interface $129.99
M-Audio Delta 44 (refurb) $129.99 New is $149.99
M-Audio 192 (refurb) $129.99
E-MU 1212M $149.99
M-Audio Delta 66 (refurb) $149.99
M-Audio Delta 1010LT (refurb) PCI $149.99
M-Audio Firewire Audiophile (refurb) $149.99
M-Audio MobilePre $149.99

That's what I found on the 100-200 range, under $150.
I would probably myself get the delta 1010LT refurbed.. but that's just me.

thank you so much for the input

I'm not really looking for anything specific or fancy for the soundcard. Just something that's generally better for recording.

It would help to know how many inputs you need. Assuming 2, add the esi Juli@ to the list.
