No and please don't send me PM's with answers to these questions again. I have nothing to say to you privately that I wouldn't want in the open.

Now please answer the questions.

Which companies are you a dealer for and why did you edit your abusive post to Drew?

You have my permission to post my PM to you. Arent you hijacking again?

I don't need your permission to do anything I choose but an answer to the questions I asked would be good?

Hijacking no. I have told the OP all he needs to know in answer to the question. Ergo, there is no answer, which I suspect is true of the questions I have posed to you.

Because he realized that the OP had edited his post in response to Drew's question. For some reason the posts don't show when the have been edited now.

I did a double take myself because at first glance it looked like Drew was being a dick which is definitely not typical.

This is an edit can you tell???

Oh my God you are arrogant! I am not participating in this hijacking.

I hope The OP makes a decision he is happy with , Good luck!

They dont show the "reason for editing" if it was edited within a few minutes.

I know.;) It was just kind of Ironic that VP was accusing drew of doing something that in fact he was guilty of that was where I was heading.;)

VP sent me a PM saying something similar I just wanted him to out it here. Same as I want him to post pictures of his workshop and list the companies he is a dealer for. Once we have established these simple things me and him can move on.

And I agree Drew is in no way a "dick". He's one of the coolest guys here.:D

Or if you don't fill it out apparently check my previous post...........

That should be fixed.

Even if you dont fill it out after a certain time it will still say that it was edited. I am afraid we are Hijacking!

Hi Guys! :D

I've expanded my options to a Palomino (Crate) V1512 because I found a mint one for 175 bucks. I asked the guy if I can try it out first, hopefully he says yes or I'm not gunna buy it.

175 is pretty cheap - looks like a solid amp too. Anyone tried/heard one?

Muttley if there is no answer, honestly don't bother posting. It's not helpful to read "It's all subjective, there are no answers"

I know this, it can be like asking whos the best guitar player, that said its still helpful/entertaining/worth reading peoples reasoning for their opinions. That's all I wanted.

On the other hand, it's not like your post bothered me or anything :)

Just trying to help you out bro thats all.

OK, I'll do it your way. You need to get a Fender Princeton, has to be original. No other amp will do for you. It's the best amp ever made period. Everything else is just a pale imitation. Glad I could help Now close this thread. We have the answer.;)

I would never buy a line 6. They are so ugly I cannot even begin to look at one long enough to try it out and actually see how they sound.

Terrible I know, but all I think when I see line 6 is metal metal metal and little kids playing as fast as they can to what is barely "music"

sorry but that style of music just does not to it for me.

Meanwhile I'm very interested in:

Vox AC4TV
Fender Pro Junior
Fender Blues Junior
Palomino/Crate V1512
Fender Super Champ XD
Epiphone Valve Junior

Aw shucks, you guys are too kind. :o

So. Which amp should I get? I can only play bedroom levels right now, but perhaps I should get an amp that will stay with me for the future?

Guitar: Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Pedals: Holy Grail Reverb, Digitech Loop Station
Styles: Bluesy, Lead stuff as well as experimental pensive type
Players/Bands I admire: Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Doors, The Band, The White Stripes, The Beatles, John Mayer, The Black Keys, CCR, The Incredible String Band etc...

Tone I want: Clean Clean Clean, Tube Distortion, Slight Reverb

wouldn't mind a two-rock... :( $$$

ps my apologies on spelling recommend wrong

Thanks for the extra info, dude. :D

That's a pretty wide range of styles and tones you're after, which makes this tricky. That said, the one thing that jumps out at me is more often than not, those guys are Strat players - Hendrix, Layla and onwards Clapton, SRV, Gilmour, Knopfler, Mayer... This is probably the LAST thing you wanted when you posted this question, but maybe a Strat would get you closer to the tone in your head, than a new amp?

On the (fairly) cheap, I've always really liked the Tech-21 Trademark 30 for bedroom playing. It sounds pretty damned excellent, has an FX loop so you can get your looper and reverb behind the preamp, will do a wide array of tones, and cranked all the way up will barely keep up with a live drummer. It's solid state, but sounds better than a lot of smaller tube amps I've played.

The smaller tube Fenders are pretty nice too, though a bit more money, and while they won't get all that crunchy or raunchy, they'll definitely get your Gilmour or SRV sounds. I do admit I occasionally have Blues Jr. GAS myself. :D

Finally, I'm a total Mesa fanboi, and while they're seriously not cheap, the Lone Star Special might be worth a look. A bit cheaper but harder to find, I used to own a Nomad and it was a great sounding, absurdly flexible rig. I bought the 2x12 45 watt one for around $800, I think, and I've seen the 1x12s around $550-600 pretty often.

Drew: Thank you. This is the kind of response I'm looking for. Let me clear some things up a bit.

1) Yeah I knew that I should have gotten a strat - however I fell in love with my epi and bought it anyway.

2) The reason I'm asking about amps is ... I basically don't have one! I have a used, stored in a bad environment, Fender Frontman 15r. In other words, I can't judge much tone. In reality, its not HORRIBLE, but I've finally gotten an ear where it bothers me. So I've been trying to figure out my next amp, which will hopefully be the only amp I used for the next 3-6 years. (I plan on not playing in a band or gigging - need to get much better first).

I looked at the Tech-21 online and heard good things. 2 problems: 1) its solid-state but more importantly 2) I don't know anywhere I Can try it.

My Price range really should be <$300 however I recently decided I could bare it out another month or so and save for something up to maybe $500. I'm hoping to find a used Blues Jr. or something.

Edit: I've been drooling over Mesa's as well as this: http://www.voxamps.com/us/heritagecollection/ac30h2l/ but eveything from Mesa is above 500$ and the Vox would be an absurd buy for my playing conditions. I can dream though right?

What do you know you didn't mention the Princeton once.:p

Save up the cash and keep an eye on craigslist. I saw a Fender bassman 50 with a 2x12 cab for $450 on my local cragislist the other day. (damn my empty bank account!). If I was in the market for an amp I'd be watching craigslist until I found a gem.

Yep - being in NYC is good too. I've been checking it compulsively everyday. Nothing yet though - just that Palomino V1512 for $175

shuasetter - two suggestions, one I should have thought of earlier, and one from your last response.

1.) Your guitar - you obviously like the sound and feel of a LP, even if a lot of the tones you like are singlecoil based. I don't know if the stock Gibson pickups are 4-connector or not, but if so it probably wouldn't be much trouble at all to replace the stock tone control with a push-pull circuit, and wire it up such that by pulling out the knob, you could tap the coil, so that only one of the coils was being amplified, effectively giving you single-coil sounds from the humbucker. You could also have it switch from series (normal for a humbucker) to parallel (more singlecoil like, but still hum-bucking) as another alternative, if the hum bothered you in "single-coil" mode. One of the guys who's way better with electronics could probably tell you if the stock pickups had 4-connector wiring, but if not you could still do this down the road with a pickup swap. It's sort of like the best of both worlds - there's more to the "Strat" sound than a single coil pickup, but that'd get you a lot closer.

2.) My firewire card is on the fritz and I'm waiting for a new one, but for the time being I've recorded a couple clips with my Trademark 30, and I'd be happy to post them for you if you thought it'd help any. I kind of rave about this amp a lot here, but it really IS a great amp, for the price/size. If Marshalls actually sounded as good as the "brit" mode on this thing, I'd own one.

Yeah I would be down to hear some clips. Do you have any other amps around? Would be nice to hear a couple - even amps im not interested in
