They say ignorance is bliss so I guess that's why I've been such a happy guy. I've been cranking out demos and even self produced (sell off the corner of the stage) albums for years with a Tascam 8 track cassette multitracker. The thing is getting unreliable and I'm planning on moving to one of the mid priced digital multitrackers and I need some input on what would be best for me. The options as I see them (and feel free to offer others) are the Zoom 16 track ($800), the Tascam 24 track ($800), or the Yamaha 16 track ($1,000).
What I do is record full bands. I've been limited to 4 tracks at a time so I've been recording bass/drums/guitar then going back and adding the vocals, solos, keys, horns, whatever. Then I put an effects unit or two in the loop and master straight to a Tascam CD burner/duplicator.
Also, I don't have (and won't have) a computer available so I want to be able to master (and back up at the track level) all within the unit.
Your thoughts?
