I apologize up front if this subject has been beaten to death already, but there are a lot of msg's around these parts, and although I did peruse many of them, I wasn’t sold on anything and would like some more feedback.

So, to get to the point, which digital 8 track recorder our there that records at least 4 tracks simultaneously and doesn’t use compression, provides the most bang for the buck? As a matter of fact, I’m not completely sold on digital, so if anyone feels strongly about a certain analog 8 track, I’d appreciate your comments, too.

Thanks!

I use an lx20 alesis ,, it records up to 8 tracks at once..I get very good results with it.

Well, I'd prefer to get a mixer/recorder if such a creature exists in a decent capacity. I don't have a mixer, and would love to avoid having to buy one if possible (it's a money thing)

Are you looking for a mixer/recorder, or just a recorder?

I love my Roland VS880. It has a recording mode without compression, but doesn't default to it. Sounds great, but does eat up the disk space. Very portable and reliable. I recommend putting a 4GB drive in it though. Combine it with a PC and you have a good all around solution.
