i know i know, this question is asked a LOT, but i'll ask it anyway.

searching for my first electric, really, and i want something decent that'll last me a bit before i finally decide to invest in something greater.

i love the sounds of both humbuckers and single-coils, so it's hard trying to find the best of both worlds. i've been looking into several companies and it seems like i've settled between either a Godin SDXT or a G&L Legacy or Comanche.

any other recommendations?

also- any recommendations on an amp and pedals, i.e. overdrive, etc.?

also also (i'm getting long-winded!)- what about an acoustic amp? i have a taylor 414rces, and need something all right to gig with solo in coffeeshops, small clubs, etc. was thinking about an Ultrasound AG-50DS2. SWR's Blonde series is nice, but bloody heavy. lol.

all right! i'm done. any replies would be greatly appreciated, and thanks so much beforehand. :)

Not really sure about the electric question. I have not played either of the models you listed. I did just buy a Schecter C-1/EA semi hollowbody that rocks my world. I can find almost any tone on that.

I would go with a fender Acoustasonic. Any one of the series would work. I think most of them have a mic input if you need it.

One thing that is very do-able is to take whatever solid body feels good to you and put in pickups with coil taps. I use an SG with Seymour Duncan SH-4 and SH-14's. The pots are replaced with push-pull pots. Voila- Click- it's a Gibson Click- it's a telecaster Click- it's a hybrid strat.
I like the California Blonde a lot, and I don't care how heavy it is.
Also, consider Fishman loudbox, but it is also 55.5 lbs.-Richie

The choices you've narrowed it down to are all excellent guitars.

Being an owner of both G & L and Godin guitars (and a guitar player for almost 28 years), I'm still very impressed with the build-quality and tone of my G & L F100, which I've owned since it was new almost 24 years ago! G & L guitars are built to last forever and they play like a dream. They're quality hasn't waned one bit over the years. They still build 'em to last a lifetime.

My Godin Acousticaster is also a rock-solid workhorse with incredible tone, noiseless electronics, and is closer to "perfect" than any other new guitar I've ever seen or played in the last 10 years. I've also played all the Godin electrics from the Radiator to the LGXT. They're all awesome guitars.

You can't go wrong in either a Godin or G & L, so I'd stick with one of those. I assure you... you'll be quite happy with any one of your choices. :)

i've tried both the acoustasonics and the california blondes, and it's still not quite a natural tone. there's some faint buzz, too, so that doesn't help, but i totally appreciate the suggestions. :)

i'll also look more into coil taps.

buck-
thanks for the reassurance on my choices. :) i think for the time being and for money's sake i'm going to go with a Godin SDxt, then down the line get a G&L Legacy to round out my sound/tone. now it's just a matter of waiting for it to get here.

Ritchie was very correct on the electric side. Get an electric that handles humbuckers and split the coils with a push-pull pots. I did this when I rebuilt my LP clone.

You will find a wiring diagram that you can extract the coil splitting from at the bottom of the page. It does make for a very versatile insturment.

I'm not familiar with the Godin guitars (but several guys on this site who know their stuff recommend them highly) - but if price is still an issue with the Godin, a Yamaha Pacifica is about the best value you can find in the lower price ranges.

They are not just good for the money - they're good guitars!

G&L makes more than one model w/coil taps I believe. I have an ASAT Deluxe semi-hollow. Sweet guitar. Not cheap.
