Where to try/buy MXL mics in Australia?

Go easy, it's my first time!

I'm gearing up to by my first LDC (even have approval from my wife!) and every shop here in Oz is trying to flog an NT1-A to me, which I'm not that keen on. I'd be keen to try an MXL V67i or 2003 but nowhere here seems to carry stock for me to actually try out. The only Aussie online shop I've found lists a 2003 as RRP $499AUD best price 'under' $429AUD (about $300 USD). On the Sam Ash website I can order a 2003 and 603 pack for $169 (USD) and even accounting for postage and import duty I'd still have change left from what I'd pay here in Oz.

It seems we are getting royally screwed here if we want to buy anything other than Rode (even then, last week I was in LA and noticed I could buy Rode cheaper there than here...should have stayed longer and actually bought something). The general formula seems to be, take the US street price, double it and call that the Australian dollar 'best' price.

Any recommendations for where to try/buy MXL here? Or do I just give in to eBay? And yes, I did search this forum, and the best I got was a lengthy post about buying Studio Projects mics from New Zealand...

Thanks,

Daniel

I find that I end up buying most of my gear from overseas, expically small things like mics. Customs x-rays tehm, sees that they're microphones, and just lets them pass.
I haven't had to pay import duty on anything- even when I bougth 3 Onyx 800rs and a HD24XR (about US$4k).

And you're right about the Rode thing- they've tried to saturate our relatibley small market.

Allens music stocks a decent amount of AT and Shure mics, however I don't think I've seen anywhere that stocks MXLs as standard.
The "listed" distributer is
www.innovativemusic.com.au
but you'd have to compare prices to getting one from eBay or some other US/UK source and getting them posted out...
