I was wondering who has the lowest price on studio projects mics? I've read some reviews and comments about them and have seen people say they have gotten the B-1 for $79 brand new. Everywhere I look the seem to be going for $99 shipped. Saving $40 for a pair would be HUGE at this point for me. I'm trying to save as much as I can so I can get my home studio off the ground. :) Thanks!

Are you willing to buy B-Stock units? If so, you can get them direct from PMI.

Hey man, thanks for the link :) Yeah, I'm probably willing to get b-stock. I heard they added some features to the mics recently though. Im going to email and see if those options are on these units. Thanks! :D

Those are great prices! The B1 is like $100 and the C1 is like $200 new from e-bay or Musicians Friend.I have the B1 and I like it. :)   :p :p

I really really want to get the C1, but i spent the cash on other small things..damn!

Ive heard great things about them for the most part. i am thinking about using 2 as drum overheads and then I can use them to mic other instruments and possibly vocals :)

The B1 would be best for overheads if you want an LDC, the C4 are decent overhead mics and have omni capsules which are a nice option as well.

Hey War,

Have you ever tried the JoeMeek JM27 SDC? They're priced quite attractively, but I haven't heard much about them. Are they similar to the MXL-603?

I want a c1 too! I just got a Roland VS-1880 and I think it would be a nice fit

I have some JM27's, and i really dig them for overheads. I don't know about the MXL603, but I have an MXL991, and the JM27s are a tad 'darker' sounding. They sound great for the price.

If you guys want C1's get it from sweetwater. Most people don't know that you have the right to bargain for a price. I got a new C1 for $165 with shipping. Give it a try. What I basically did was call around a few companies and eventually got the lowest price.

do you guys think that the b1 or c1's would be better than Akg c340's (SDC) for drum overheads? looking to upgrade at some point, im considering SM81's too.

For overheads, I'd suggest the SP B1's; a bit smoother and quieter compared to the C1. If you're looking at vocal mics, the SP C1 would be my suggestion.

I've used the C1 for vocals and it works really well. Everyone who I've recorded using it loves how clear their voice sounds. I've also used it as a room mic on drums with exceptional results.

If you're talking about AKG C430's, I don't personally like them for studio recording type stuff. Off-axis response is poo. I would save up for SM81's to replace them. I don't think I would like the C1 as an overhead. Haven't used the B1.

Time to start saving for the C1 :) I just bought a matched pair of B1's from PMI audio for drum overheads. Thanks for the help and info guys! :)

SM81s are great SDCs. Of the 4 models you mentioned, that would be my pick.
