I have been wanting to do a little recording for some of my friends that play instruments and stuff and i was wondering what kind of equipment i would need in order to make it work. I have FL studio 9 XXL loaded on my computer and have been playing around with that for a couple weeks. Is this a good program to start with and will most of the equipment be compatable wth FL? I would also like to try to put together my own songs that i record from my friends.

Welcome to the four Dougie. Unfortunately, for the most part we are going to need a little more information in order to help you out for the most part. We need to know what style you plan to record, how many simultaneous mics you want to use to record, do you have a budget for new equiptment and if so what is that budget?

Also, before spending any money on new equiptment, I would STRONGLY recommend getting yourself some basic knowledge and recording understanding. The first money you spend should be on a book such as Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies by Jeff Strong. You can get it at Amazon and it will give you alot of the basic knowledge you need to start out. By learning first and buying second, you can save yourself from making a lot of terrible purchases that inevitably are a "waste of money".

I would also just recommend browsing the various sections of the forum, look at older threads and read read read! the more you read the more you learn and the more it will help you in the future when you are ready to buy equiptment. Start reading a book like the one mentioned above and all the various threads in the forum. Then, don't be afraid to ask more specific question. Surely after you read half the threads here and the book mentioned before you will have alot more knowledge, but you will also have alot more questions. Buy you will know how to ask them and understand the concepts behind most of them.

I hope this helps you. I know it always sucks to hear the dreaded "study" principle thrown out there. But it will save you lots of headache, disappointment, and wasted money. Trust me, I know from experience.

I hope this helps some and Welcome to the forum!
