Sorry fp, I got the ol "page cannot be displayed" thing for some reason. I'm off to Ohio, I'll try when I get back.

hmmmm....should be working
Have fun in Ohio.
Thanks anyway.

I like this! Song wise it sounds very cool, nice ambiant sound and I like the drumming.

Mix wise, sounds like the vocals can come up in the mix. They are a bit hard to make out. The cymbals are really dominating the mix. I like the sound effects right about the 1:30 mark or so. The mids sound like they are kind of high ... but it may be my crappy speakers translating them badly.

I really like the song though. Sounds like it just needs some tweaking...

:D

Yo............

so THATS where the rockets go.
I loved the chorus and the ending was of course very hendrixian....that's a word now :)

Excellent tune F.

those drums sound pretty good, especially the cymbals. what are they? real, samples, etc? please tell.

Thanks guys!
boydrj,
I'll check those vocals, and I've been known to mix cymbals too loud.

Heavy,
Thanks, "hendrixian" can't be a bad thing

Phish_pussy - thanks I guess, if you're still here

erichenryus,
Drums are a Slingerland set with Zildjan cymbals recorded in our drummer's basement. Shure PG52 on kick, sm57 on snare, sm58 on floor tom, audio technica dynamic (the "get a free T-shirt w/ purchase" variety) on ride tom, mxl 603 and Nady cm58 as overheads. There's a big crack in the crash cymbal that's panned left giving it sort of a dull low mid range sound.

Very cool! A 4th of July song-very spacey and spacious-the low end is definetely NOT lacking on this one-drums sound good-Viva le real drums!! You got a stereo spread on them too--nice. The usual well played guitars. I know your not a synth fan-but some of the sounds are synth like....splain. Vocals gotta come up-maybe a little fatter sound on the lead-sounds like you rolled off the low end completely. I'm diggin the tune-I still have your last one popping into me head-sounds like you're going to have a fine album, if you ever finish it :)..j/k...One thing---the beginning is kinda wierd/abrupt, a instrumental segue into this might be cool. This sounds perfect to go into spacey jam territory for a live situation if thats your thing.

i'd say you did a fantastic job with that. the cymbals sounded very good to me. ok, the toms sounded like crap but the rest sounded very, very good.

oh yeah, and that was a pretty cool song too :).

man, this is the second drum recording in a basement that has sounded good to me. i have a basement, i have a drumset, hmmmmmmm.

Statomaster,
I always love your posts.
No synth here! If I ever record synth I can guarantee you there will either me a gun to my head or a big wad of cash in my pocket :D. The other electric guitarist has a bag full of pedals though. To be honest, I'm not sure what he used, but it is guitar. I'm not a huge fan of pedals either, but he is allowed;).(My parts were the bird sounds and the dirty chords after the break).
The abrupt begining - good call! I was talked into pressing record after the acoustic player started playing for some dumb reason. Rookie engineer error. You called it though, we recorded an instrumental segue to lead into this.

I did roll all of the low end off the vocals. They were driving me nuts and I decided I'd pretend like I was going for that far away am radio sound from the begining. I'll bring 'em up and maybe put a little bit of low end back in.

We used to play live and do the spacey jam thing. If I ever get your CD ;) I'll dig up some live tape and send it your way.

You could say the toms sound like crap because of the basement in a way. His basement floods so we keep the drums on pallettes. Not good for toms.

The sad thing is, at my house I sound proofed a room. We don't bring his drums over anymore 'cause we get a better sound in his basement.

The song says you screwed up, but you didn't screw up on this song. Really nice. Good sound even with all that space and reverb. I'm having some trouble making out all the lyrics, but from the words I *can* hear, I know they're worth hearing. The instruments are louder than the voice. Bring it up.

Great singing, great drumming. Beautiful song.

good song! my biggest complaint is the low vocal volume and the drums.. they sound far away except for the cymbals.. and there is too much use of cymbals on this imop.. I really like the tune but I hate the vocal mix..

I agree with the singing needs to be louder.

This has a real 80's feel to it except without cheesy drums, I liked it.

this sure makes a case for any real drums are better than fake drums........they aren't really hi-fi sounding, but i love the drum sound you got......very nice......how did you record those by the way?...........i agree that the vocal could come up a bit........very nice

"this sure makes a case for any real drums are better than fake drums"

Yeah, the drums on this one sound *so* good. It's an endorsement for finding a drummer. LOL

I agree with what was said previous. and bring up the vocals!

Would that be you holding the gun?

*Silly Ped was experimenting on a certain Fprod South song with A SYNTH BASS SOUND and suddenly doesn't feel well...;)*

Sounds weird, mixwise. But I feel it's perfect for this song.

(Why do I post comments? What am I doing on this mixing board? I like too much!) :D

Can't be of any help in the mixing...but bring that vocal up a cunt hair or two:) . I loved the whole flow to this man...give me a Bruce Springsteen kinda vibe for sure. What kinda pre are you using on the vox? Second listen...ride that fader on the vox more, I think it was spot on in places. I loved this man. Thanks!*****
