Whats the best place to plug into for monitoring? I'm running 2 balanced ¼'' cords from the main outs on my behringer submixer (which also has stereo ctrl room outs) into a fostex mr8, which also has stereo outs and headphone outs of its own. Oh yeah the mixer has a headphone out too. I was interested in getting a small headphone amp but I have no damn clue where to go from there. Do I plug my phones and/or headphone amp into the mixers' headphone out, or one of the mr8s' headphone outs? And as for Monitors should I run them from the stereo out from the mr8 or the ctrl room out from the mixer? Its chaos over nothing but its killing me.

Usually you use the Ctrl room outs for monitors. For headphones you can use whatever works. The Ctrl room outs will work again if it's just. If you need to create a seperate headphone mix then use an Aux send or another buss.

Thanks

That website helped a lot thanks! But check this out, When I feed balanced plugs back into a stereo channel on my mixer I get some fuzzy feedback, and if I turn the gain up too high for the phones, the main out, channel gain, etc. it'll end up blasting my ears out with feedback. I hope this was clear. If anyone needs me to be more specific let me know. Anyway, if you might know what's causing this it would be great! thanks again!

feedback comes when your mic picks up stuff which comes out of phones/speakers and gets picked up again by the mic. it could just be your phones are too loud. remember not to have monitors/speakers on while you're recording.

also, make sure you only have one copy of the thing you're recording in your headphones - i.e. the one that's been to your recording device and back again. don't monitor 'direct' from from your mixer inputs.

on my behringer mixer, i can choose what goes out of the headphone socket/ctrl room outs. i bring my output from my computer to the tape input on the mixer, and have ONLY that coming out the phones, not the main mix or sub mix.
