:D Unless I was sleep when everybody decided to disappear

Where have all the serious artist gone? I look on the web for a stronger force of R&B and hip hop resources but cant find them. I'm talking about sites geared toward the progression and education of music as it relates to R&B an HIP-HOP. All i keep finding is these candyass sites that have a very small link for HIP-HOP/R&B at the bottom right corner behind the page counter. What about complete forums that are geared for HIP-HOP/R&B artist and producers, beat makers and engineers. A lot of cats don't even know what mastering is or why they need it. Not to mention how to paint an even mix when recording. Maybe its just me and i fell asleep when everyone decided to move. So could somebody list some links for me so i can get point in the right direction

hey

I know what your talking about....I've been doing alot of work here in St. Louis with alot of different artist rap/r&b most rappers and singers think they can get by with nothing because all they use is a pen and pad while the producer/ enginner spends all the time making them sound better...I'm just really pissed off...I have nothing more to say...that was a good post though

COME ON BRO. productions

:D
Good point Rassizzm
If its one thing i hate is cats that think your name is "come on bro. productions" you know the type. They want you to master their album 16 tracks of the worse ish when you got it but you are supposed to make it hotter than everything out. Which means extensive editting, denoising , equing, applied dynamic adjustments and every other trick in the book that you know or stole. with the equipment that you will be still paying off when you get old enough to go to a nursing home. You look at it and see yea its doable hard but doable. You givem the price and the first thing they say is "Come on bro. " cant you cut me some kind of deal. They expect to pay someone who is in it just for the money, the big cats, a large sum but cats who love it and live it pennies. is that backwards or what? If you live it it and love then i'm going to pay you what it takes to get you in it. because if its in you like that then you are always working on it, when you out with your friends, when you shooting ball, when ya watching tv, when ya sleeping, whenever. you cant help it. thats worth more than some big cats who gets your stuff works on it a says thats good enough for what you are paying. Its time to shut Come on Bro. productions down.

Respectable and Understandable but...

I am a R&B/Hip Hop Producer, Artist -- my clientele has been some of the sort of what you guys are talking about, but the bottom line is if your about "BUSINESS" then that's exactly what it is . Take no shorts from anyone, if you are as good as you say then stick by your word.

a FRIEND of mine paid everyone in the free world for tracks except the hottest I did for him (which he didnt pay) but after everyone had jerked him over squeezing all his money out of him, he eventually landed back with me (still not paying) but I broke it down to him that I was owed, so I wrote up contracts and he signed, now I'm $6000 richer (in installments of course).

Point being you will always run into "Come on Bro" characters
Question is are you going to counteract by saying "Cool Bro. Sign on this dotted line". Business is Business, make no mistake about it. I dont have any sites to acquire about chord progression and all that, but a lot of practice and listening to other producers: Tim & Bob (Case), Jam & Lewis (Janet), Babyface
you know the top dogs.

Good luck fellas, your only as good the more you want to learn
that's the key to all this shit ---- soak it up, learn it

hit me back, what type of studio yall got

i use to do studio time for $30/hour, but i couldn't take listening to so much crap music. i had an additional $20/hour if i've actually got to play a single note for you.

now i only work with artist that i think have talent... for no money. i have a day job, and i'm paid. i'm in this for the love with the prospect of turning love into money. any track that i produce i write a contract with the artist that i get half. any new song that i produce, my name goes on the copyright with the artist, so i get half.

Let's not forget the extensive use of Auto-tune we have to do just to make them sound like something.

Aint that the truth. Autotune dont make you a singer it just makes you a studio singer:D

Good thread ya'll

Mine as well through my 2 cents in..... Lately I have started to question what I'm in this for. Back in the day all I had was a Yamaha RX7 and my creativity, and I don't think I've ever been happier doing music. Since then I've grown so much as a producer/engineer/ and writer and I'm in demand in my home town but I havent made a full song for myself in over a year. I don't make the time. I spend all my time doing work for hire and 99 out of 100 cats I do work for I feel like I'm wasting my talent on. Even if they may have a nice flow, or a good voice(which I'm hearing less and less of) peoples work ethics are f*%ked up. I work really hard and that's how I got into engineering and producing, because I wanted to do more than just write flows. I wanted to make music and understand everything that comes along with it. So I expanded my vision to learn and I still do.

I have come to the conclusion that it's all about balance. I gotta do work for hire because thats how I feed my family, but I can't loose site of creating for myself and working on what I love FOR THE LOVE! Because back in the day that's all it was about. Now that I gotta think about money, studio apts, clients, and copyrights, I can't loose site of why I do what I do in the 1st place.
