Where do you 'wear' your guitar?

I play mine a little lower than the armpit but a little higher than the belt. Relatively high though I guess.

I set the strap height to the same level as it rests on my leg, when i'm sitting. (I sit down in the position I practice, set the strap length,.. when
I stand its in the same position.)

No point practicing for hours and when getting on stage having the guitar
in a different place...

Which is why I think I need to start practicing standing up.

No, I know how to stand up, I mean, oh, never mind.

Damn, you beat me to it!!! :)

I just practice sitting up a little straighter than being hunched over. That way the guitar is not incredibly high when I stand up. It also keeps me from hunching over on stage to achieve that same angle.

But for consistancy on stage as well as practice, this is the best advice for positioning anyone can take.

My arms are short, and my front is bumpy, so there's a pretty narrow "sweet spot" that I can comfortably reach.....
....so, the body's right around the navel, and the neck's usually angled up at about 45 degrees....unless I'm playing upright instead.... :D

I used to love playing standing up. Then I moved our of my parents and into a place where I didn't have room to stand. Now it's been so long since I played standing regularly, that it's a nightmare.

Usually keep the guitar with the strap at full length. But it gets raised up as soon as I realise it makes soloing a nightmare. But for me, having it raised too high make rhythm a nightmare. What I need is a slave to hold the guitar at the right height for me depending on what I'm playing.

All in all, it's a bit of a nightmare.

With my electric basses (both 34" scale), they're slung to where the top curve of the body sits on my hip. My acoustic/electric bass is slung a bit higher, with the bottom curve of the body sitting on my hip, and that's where I sling my acoustic and electric guitars, as well. I have long arms as well (33-34" sleeve length for dress shirts), so it's doubtful I'll ever play too many stringed instruments any higher than my waist.

Right up to my neck! Don't play jazz stuff but it helps with tapping and a few certain riffs. Also makes it feel like I'm not even supporting the weight of an LP and takes a lot of strain off my back in those 6 hour practices (every practice).

Edit: Well, not right up to my neck. Top of the guitar is about at my chest, but it's still fairly high compared to most players.
I'm with you, I wear it a little lower, but the heigher it is the better for everything...especially the back like you mentioned.

I'm definitely a high guitar guy.

I usually keep the top edge of the guitar at belt level.

No room to stand up? What kind of cave is that??

For me it's bridge right on top of my hipbone, neck angled up about 25-35 degrees with LP & SG styles, about an inch lower and angled a little more with strat style guitars.

I never paid much attention... I never change the length of the strap...so I strapped on my Tele and it rest on top of my right thigh with no slack while sitting and when I stand up, the bottom of the axe is just above my navel with the neck pointing up and my right boob rest on the top curve of the body... :D :D :D :D :D

I used to shorten my straps so I could get it higher. I litterally couldn't put the guitar on without taking the strap off. I almost choked myself on my Jazz box, back when I had it. (I got an extra 20 beats a minute in speed, with it up there, and my left wrist was usually in a pretty neutral position, but it was a real bitch getting my thumb over the fingerboard for the Hendrix chords.)

Since then, I've back off on that, and actually I wear electrics a little below the level they would be if I were sitting. Acoustics are right about lap level (if I were sitting).

Oh, and I always wear a strap, even if I'm sitting down. Just the way I am.

Picking on top of the trouser snake. I like the long strap so I can lift the bass from the neck like a guitar god while letting it ring. :D

Low - a la Peter Hook, Paul Simonon etc. You can't play a Rickenbacker bass any other way - it just wouldn't be right.

Guitar has to be up for me, I can reach it all better that way. Plus, I like how the curve cradles my right man-boob, making it look even bigger. (At least I'm not as huge as my friend used to be - he played low and it made his guitar look like a belt buckle...)
