Hello!

First post after some intense lurking around these great fora. It's nice to see that most of the gear I own so far is thought highly of by most members here :-D

My goal is to start up a good demo-studio in our town since the only one that I know of is expensive (IMO) and run by a dork who doesn't give a donkeypoo about his costumers wishes.

The equipment I own:

- pIII 650, 256MB, HP CD-R, SBLive! Platinum, Cubase VST (haven't learned anything about this yet....)
- Mackie 1604 vlz pro
- 2x dbx 266XL
- Roland GP100 :-P
- Rode NT-1
- Rode NT-3

Equipment I have long-term borrowed :-D

- 2x Alesis ADAT
- Behringer Ultracurve

You'll prolly advise me to buy some more microphones, right? But I have another NT-1, some SM57/58/91's and some C1000S's just a phonecall away. So I think I'll buy my own when the prices are right.

Is there anything you'd recommend me to go buy right away?

gotta run.

Direct boxes are good to have, for D.I. bass guitar and electric/acoustic. BSS Audio makes a good one for about $170 and Behringer DI100 is only $55. A good dedicated reverb would be good. Yamaha and Lexicon come to mind. Mic pre-amps, mic stands, headphones for cueing, extra cables, power conditioner, UPS in case of a power outage or power surges. Just get ahold of a good catalog and start buying things !

I think a POD would be a great addition... if you are recording demos for bands then I'm guessing some of these bands won't have geat gear - because of a POD's versatility in dialling up practically any guitar tone I'm sure it'd come in handy.

have to say it meshuggar - acoustics. The gear will only the record the sounds you make and if you make muffled bass heavy sounds you will only record bass heavy muffled sounds - check out my site and read a bit of it to learn how acoustics can effect your sounds.
cheers
