Could someone please tell me were Mackie HR824 and Event 20/20bas monitors are made? I assume that the Mackies are made in the U.S., but I'm not so sure about the Events. What about Genelecs, Tannoys, and HHBs.

All my Tannoy stuff is labelled "Made In Canada"... so I guess they have manufacturing in both the US and Canada.

For my Event stuff, I couldn't find it on the label anywhere - in the manual it generalizes about Event products being "hand-assembled in Australia from both local and imported parts."

Bruce,

That sounds like the comments someone at RODE made to me on the phone a while back about their mics. In their case, the capsules are definitely ALL from China, the circuit boards....who knows (but I bet the circuit componets are from Asia) and the cases are machined here in Aust. Although the NT2 was supposed to be an "off the shelf" job.

As for Events coming from here.................well I'm off to investigate that. Will post when I have an answer.

I thought Tannoy was from the UK somewhere.

Peace..........ChrisO

It's almost never clear cut were something is made these days - especially electronics. Components are imported from all around the world.

I can tell you for sure that the speaker drivers in the 20/20's are made by Vifa in Denmark.

I think Tannoy was founded in the UK....my Tannoy Proto-J's were made in Canada.....

Genelecs are made in the Finnish forest.

I'm from Finland and I'm proud of it. Genelec and Nokia - what else do you need? :D

Thanks for the input so far. I originally lusted after the Event 20/20s. I haven't had a chance to A/B them, but they've received some pretty good reviews (whatever that's worth) from what I've found. But, after the recent terrorist atacks and the new surge of patriotism, I've come to the decision to try to by American whenever possible. To be honest, I don't mind supporting Canada, Australia, Finland, or any other democratic country, but when it comes to paying hard earned American dollars to support China, I'm a little reluctant. I guess I get so sick of seeing virtually every product you buy with a "Made in China" stamp or label on it. As it has already been mentioned, it's inevitable that you're going to buy Asian made stuff, esp. in the computer realm--and that's fine to me--as long as it's "made in Taiwan" , "made in Japan" , "made in Phillipines", etc.

Any of you guys or girls own the Mackies? I have yet to find a bad review.

I hate to say it but "cheap foreign goods", be it electronics, clothing, coffee, oil, or whatever, is part of the reason why we are so hated in some parts of the world.

Following colonialism, especially the 2nd half of the 20th century, many people in "3rd world" countries started asking "Who the hell are these foreigners who own all of the land and force us to work on it for slave wages? And why the hell do we continue to let them, when this is supposedly OUR country?"

In the days on the cold war it was easy for the West to label these movements as "The Communist Scourge". Under this call we squashed many efforts of people to truly take control of their own countries. We helped establish regimes which were more "sympathetic" to OUR economic interests and who keep the people in their place. The Shah of Iran, Hussein, Noriega, Pinochet, Mobutu..... the list could go on and on.

I'm not one of these people that thinks everything the US does is BAD. For the most part we have very good intentions. But, when time after time we continue to get into screwed up relationships, we eventually need to also look in the mirror and ask why it is we attract such unsavory characters.

Anyhow, this is a topic for the Dragon Cave.

I don't know about the Events being made in OZ, haven't heard that one before but the Rodents are almost fully made here now. Rode built a big new factory where all the boards are made using the latest techniques etc. I think the capsules are still from China but I'm not even sure that happens now.

Rode won the exporter of the year recently. 3% of their product is sold locally and the rest in overseas. A real success story there.

Yes fimpen the Gelelecs are made in Finland and you should be very proud of them - They are great speakers.

Yeah I always thought Tannoys were English speakers but since Harmon Kardon bought it who knows??

cheers

Checked the box that my Tannoy Proto-J's came in and guess what.....it still says "Made in Canada", just like it did yesterday when I posted......

MMMmmmmm....interesting. My Tannoy Reveals (which arrived yesterday) are designed in the UK, but there is no mention of country of manufacture. Just the Scottish Head Office address on the box.

Peace..........ChrisO

Tannoy IS a UK company - I imagine they manufacture units both in North America and in the UK... that would be interesting though - would UK Proto-Js sound different than those manufactured here???

Hmmm..........

Yeah, I definitely hear a distinctive "eh?" ringing out after each note from the Canadian built units. ;)
