Where Are The Mic Differences?

I would be well interested in hearing these too, if you can get the chance.

I think chessrock made a good point about hearing a mic 'in situ', don't think he was trying to wind you up mate! However, as your point is about basic audio differences between mics on a source, I don't think your methodology was all that flawed.

How utterly condescending.

I've asked a legitmate question and I get this kind of shit? I don't think it is the slightest bit amusing...

Actually, chessrock has quite a point.

I've listened to plenty of comparisons like MXLs vs. Neumanns, and you really can't hear much of a difference between those. They both sound natural, clear, and otherwise "good." If you really listen, you might hear a little more bass or some kind of mids or something, but on its own, it doesn't mean jack, to the point where you almost can't decide which sounds better or worse.

However, if you put them in a busy mix, those seemingly slight differences in frequencies can start to mean something, especially when different things are fighting over one range.

At that point, you can also better see how they respond to EQ, and how much and what kind of EQ work you might have to do.

You could start eliminating things and see. You might hear a greater difference with some pres than others. Same with A/D converters. Do you have a good stand-alone pre you could re-test them with?

My "kid" is currently on MTV... and doing a damn site more music than what you are doing... haunting a bulletin board all the time.

So.. who is your "kid"?

Also, this IS the internet. Take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt.
