Understanding that a) monitor choice is very subjective and personal, and b) there's no substitute for trying out as many as possible, I sit here at work where all I can do is read countless reviews and articles on various monitor options...
I read a lot like, "the minute I sold my radio-shack 2" driver speakers and upgraded to the XXX, I could really hear a difference." That is to say I read a lot of posts about major steps up in the quality/$$$ and can't help but think, "of course those $600 speakers will sound better than the $100 speakers."
But what about a guy like me who's fairly convinced a lateral move is on the horizon? I've spent a lot of time learning my Mackies and a lot of time getting my room treated and still my mixes are just "OK" most of the time and on occassion, just suck.
I'm not ruling out the possibility that I'm just not very good at mixing, but I'd much prefer to think that with a different set of monitors I could at least be a bit better.
So I got to wondering, I see a fair number of HR824's for sale on the used market, so folks must be replacing them with something right? So I wonder what they're going to and why? Are they trading one set of $1k+ monitors for another or are they sacking up and moving into the $2k+ range?
Anybody care to share some thoughts on the reason why you moved away from your Mackies and what you ended up with?
Thanks all.
