wheeee - spinny digi 003 and 003r links

If that's really the 003R then it's quite a disappointment, to me anyway. They added word clock I/O, wow. The rest is pretty much the same as the 002R, at least as far as I/O. The unit desperately needed at least one more digital I/O, like AES for example. Perhaps there is more under the hood, but as far as the hardware that's looking more like an 002R version 2.1.
 
yeah-- you'd hope they improve the ad/da and internal clock given all of the folks who feel they need the black lion mod. the word clock ins/outs seems like a good addition in that it shouldn't have been omitted from the 002r/002
are the di's new too?
more importantly, did you enjoy spinning them around and zooming and stuff?

Thanks for the link Ozraves, but that makes it even more disappointing. Tehre's very little new on this unit. It's really just a repackaged 002/002R with a few enhancements. Amazing to me that they didn't up the ante a bit to try and lure 002/002R users into buying a new unit.
 
hmmmm, Wordclock, and headphone connection....

"maybe" they updated the pres and converters...but I don't see them saying anything about that.

I don't know. I agree with SonicAlbert. If I had a 002 already, it wouldn't be enough to lure me. After 5 years of the 002, I thought they might give us a little more (maybe more preamps?)
Looks like people at the DUC are pretty disgusted with it.

Heck, forget about attempting to lure Digi002 users into buying the new Digi003. It won't even lure Digi001 users from upgrading (assuming pres and convertes are bypassed with outboards in the first place).
 
It very well might lure Digi 001 users for the simple reason that the 001 is PCI based and frozen at ProTools 6.4. If you want to buy a new Mac and use a newer version of PT you simply have to ditch the 001.

The biggest problem I'd worry about if I owned the 002, would be if Digi plans on soon ditching the 002/r and refusing to offer newer software versions for it. They could easily just say "buy the 003 or you don't get the new software."

They'd better off something big pretty soon because I've already heard of people planning on making a move to a different company.

I have an old M-Box and need to upgrade to a new Pro Tools system. If not Digi 003, what would you recomend? I would consider changing recording software to something other than Pro Tools..

I have to say, I love my Digi 002R. The 003 would be a great upgrade from the Mbox. I went from an Mbox to my Digi 002R and am extremely happy with it. My only dissapointment, that I expressed earlier in this thread, is that the 003 is not more of an upgrade from the 002. But from an Mbox it's a very worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

There are rumors that Digi is going to come out with a box that is indeed an upgrade from the 002/003 series. We'll have to wait and see.
 
I really wish they would add more digital i/o almost every device being released now a days has one... I would like to see a gain display for the gain knobs and new pres. Also the ability to chain units together.. like in the HD line.

All of this without charging an arm, leg, and my first born...

I understand Guitar Center is discounting all digi 002 that remain.
