Whcih is the best way to position Sennheiser MD 421?

Which way, would it sound the best for a guitar amp if it were pointed straight ahead like a Shure 57, or should I face the mic upwards?

Even though it looks like a "side-address" mic, it's not. Use it exactly the same way you would use a Shure SM57 - point it at what you want to record.
