-'Monitors': Yamaha NS-A 635A speakers through a Pioneer SX-737

I started with the SM57 into a Yamaha tape 4-track. Then I got some 2 channel USB box thing and picked up the MXL 2003. I have steadily built up the rest over the years. The original goal was to be able to close mic my drums but it's sort of ballooned from there as I now record my and my friends' bands too. I keep the Echo, S-Phone and DPS-II in a 6-space rack box and it's pretty mobile...which is good because I have to go to practice spaces and houses to get good rooms to record in.

I have a good friend who has a Digi 002 and a second Fat Head and good mics/pres. I I borrow his RNP to use two on projects where I need 10 mics at once. We combine forces on some projects or borrow each others' gear when needed. It works out really well because is good to have a second engineer/set of ears on a lot of projects.

Just wanted to provide an update to get some new gear on the record. We have replaced the MXL V69Nogami in the vocal booth with an AT4050, as the default vocal mic. Though we can still switch to the MXL if we want/need to for any particular vocalist, so far the 4050 has been the superior-sounding mic.

Also, the primary owners have added an ART Pro MPA II two-channel preamp to the rack. It would not have been my choice for a purchase, TBH; I would have saved up a bit longer and gotten something a step up from that even. But seeing as how I didn't have to pay for it myself, I'm not going to complain at having a new toy and option to play with ;).

We just installed the MPA II it last night and so have only had an hour or two to play with it so far, so the full jury is still out, but so far so good; it does seem to be a bit of an improvement over the built-in pres on the Studio Live board for the vocal channel - providing a bit more intimate, less veiled of a sound. But there's still a lot of shaking out and trial that needs to be done before I can give a full accounting of it pluses or minuses.

New pics will be added to my pics page as soon as I remember to bring my camera with me to the studio ;).

I am still piecing stuff together to determine what I like the most in terms of programs, and I will probably add to the gear stash in the future. Used to have much more stuff than I do now... but that is not relevant sooo.... on to what is current:
Interface (en route) ART 2 input USB w/preamp.
Preamp: Ballari Mp105 w/ Tung Sol 12ax7 tube in place of the SovTek.
Mics: Samson Co1 Condenser, Shure 588SB, EvCo9, and AT ST59 Mk.II (too cheap to pass up).
Cables: Both XLR, one 25 ft, and a 15ft.
One mic stand.
Audio Programs being considered/tested: Reaper, Garage Band, and Audacity.
Computer: Mac Mini, with a 2.36GHz dual core Intel CPU, and 2Gb of DDR3 Ram. Not sure what the audio card spec is, but that isn't overly relevant due to the upcoming use of the interface. It's got enough horsepower for home recording.

Luckily most of this gear is leftover from when I was doing more active projects (for fun), so aside from getting the interface, another cable, and a new mic stand (because I could not find my old one for the life of me), I pretty much had enough mics to get rolling. I did buy the AT mic, but that was because it was marked at 1/3rd of the price it was supposed to be. I figured it has to beat a Nady in the same range. :laughings:

Thinking about maybe picking up a mixing board in a couple months, as that might have some relative utility. Might help get things sorted out and sounding nice; but if I can utilize the tools in program (this is how little I have messed with them at this point), then it might not be necessary, but nice.

Monitors:
KRK 6's

EGG SHAKER! (woot woot)
lava lamp

It's not much, but I make the magic with this!! The secret is the lava lamp. :D

"I hope she was worth it ! "
Lollercaust! Actually, I think the stand that I couldn't find is hiding in my buddy's closet... the same one I lent my condenser to for 2+ years. :D
But I sure wouldn't stress the one stand. I am pretty sure both his stands were once mine. Whether I gifted them to him, or just indiscriminate long term loan I remember not. It's really not important anyway. :laughings:

Hopefully this is not too much of a thread derail!

Geze, my setup is quite pitiful, I see, after reading these.

But anyway, just for the hell of it:

Computer:
-A mix of parts from an HP and Dell I had...
3GB RAM, 2x 160GB 7200RPM IDE drives, Firewire from FireStudio
Running Cubase 4

-1x PreSonus FireStudio Project

Mics:
-1x ST55
-2x SM57
-1x SM58
-(Budgeting for drum mics...)

-Electric and acoustic guitar. (Both of questionably decent brands...)
-Yamaha keyboard. (PSR-175 crap reincarnated...:p)
-Electronic drum set who's name I have forgotten... (It's actually in a box down the hall... :p)

For the hell of it:
-Selmer La Voux II alto sax
-Atlley alto flute
-A 110 year old violin who's name is long, and in German. :/ (Recently refurbished, plays beautifully.)

Large purple egg cartons line the walls for acoustic treatment. I'm well on my way to nowhere. :D

But don't judge too hard... I'm only 16. :p

Ditto ! You're my kind of 16 year old instrumentalist if you do !
I'll even overlook the purple egg boxes. Nice colour though......
