i know this could get HUGE, and there have been other threads with a similar subject, but none as comprehensive as i'd like them to be. so since i'm in the market for plugin packages, and even though i already have a few favorites, i'd like to hear from the seasoned pros and beginners as well. if you'd rather, tell me what plugin you couldn't live without.
i'd prefer to hear about directx, but vst is also welcome.

DX Waves Gold

There's a crazy plugin called Enigma in there it's like a flanger /phaser

Amongst other plugins there's the acclaimed Waves C4 compressor. EQ's .. reverb .. stereo imager. It's a great package to help you really add the finishing touches to your mix.

These are all part of the waves package.

go for the gold bundle if you can. It's a bit pricy but you'll never go without them.

Thanks for the info.

Also .. for less $$$ .. the iZotope Ozone product seems to have gotten it's fair share of popularity amongst the ranks of the initiated here at homerecording.com
.. it's more for post production however. I don't use it. already got the waves package.

Waves Gollllllllld baby.

The 10band EQ is very nice and I've been using the L1-Ultramaximizer a lot.

The best... McDSP.. .we cant use it, too bad...
My favorite right now is the Waves Rennaisance stuff, simple to use and sounds good.

from the ones i've tried so far, i really like tc native's plugins. they're easy to work with, and have very usable presets.
i especially like their filter/envelope thing. it's groovy!!:)

I'm using Sonic Foundry's plug-ins, available dirrectly or packaged with Sound Forge / Acid. I don't care much for the reverb, but their plug-ins as a group are the most bug-free, low cpu usage ones that I have found.

today i tried the bluefx or blueline, something like that, pack, and they're very clean looking and a very light load on the cpu. modulation effects are great, especially for guitar, and dynamics processing is reasonably transparent with at moderate settings. i was just fooling around, and even though they can't compete with waves/tc stuff on transparency, they're great at getting odd sounds. there's a heavy compression preset that is quite usable as it is. on drums it gives a really awesome squish-it-all effect. it's quite dirty, and should go well with a lot of styles. it should be nice for bringing drum loops to life too.

moved by recommendations, i tried dbaudioware's pack, and compressorx, and i was blown away. they're awesome, especially db's mastering tools. compressorx is really sweet, and it works great both for melodic and rhythmic program material. thanks for the heads up, guys!

Hey postalblue, I agree with you, CompressorX is awesome. Today I recorded acoustic guitar, copied it to a number of tracks and then applied a number of different reverbs to the recordings. I could pick out Reverb X with my eyes shut. Warmth, tone presence and depth all shone through.

Check out the 14 day FULL trial everyone and tell me it ain't the best you've ever heard? ProRec gave the old version rave reviews
