Stand closer to the mic. :laughings:

No.

Have you processed the tracks at all? Have you tried Using any compression.

Im going to assume your doing some sort of hip hop or something. In which case your comparing your vocals to that of a heavily mastered and processed vocal tracks of a professionals Record.

I know that sometimes hip hop guys use different processing then rock vocals to make stuff more 'in ya face' or ballsy. You may way want ot pop over to the hip hop threads and ask there.

As it is id Double check some of your connections and settings, and all that and try playing with come different stuff like compressors and eq's and such.

However i think that your comparing your stuff with someone elses professional recording.

Good luck.

well my preamp has some settings on them but i dont know how to fine tune them... gain, gain +20,impedance,filter,phantom 48v,limit and output? is there a basline for what i should have em on

The effects he was talking about are ones you should be able to access in your recording program.
Read the manual for the preamp and figure out what all those buttons do. Then play around with them and see what happens.
The only baseline is that you want not to have your signal clipping when it's going in.

But, to re-emphasize Atom's point, if you're comparing your recordings to professional ones you have to bear in mind that you are working with about $100 worth of equipment while they are working in studios that cost anywhere from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars (not just the equipment costs, but the costs of the tracking rooms and the mixing/control rooms).

That cost difference is there for a reason. If you could get pro sounds with $100 worth of equipment, those studios wouldn't exist.

That being said, read any and all manuals you have for everything you have (the mic, the preamp and the recording program) and try and learn exactly how they work.
Then read up on and play around with eq, compression and whatever other effects you think you could use.

What's your voice like?

Does it actually have the qualities that you're seeking to present in the recording?

Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear... just sayin'...

my voice is pretty good from what i have heard..i have been in a good setup before and it was beautiful (vocals) lol now i just wanna make em as good as i can get em with this stuff..i mean i hear ppl who have done the podcasts with my mic and there vocals are 1000 times better...anyone know of a program called vocaline

i tried recording in my room instead of my small closet and it sounds a thousand times better i been puttin more feeling in it too lol...but for some reason even when mic or preamp aint plugged in i press record and it records the beat p[laying thru headphones...any way to mute it so all i hear it is thru headphones?
