Well that should be me trying to explain my girlfriend some of the features of my new console when she visites the studio.

Now I think of it....how the hell do they do that. I am not sleeping for weeks to get this thing, finally got it, everybody is totally impressed
, and all she can say is......yeah it looks big........but it needs some cleaning

Hmmm.

Oddly enough, that title would have to go to a plugin of all things.

Waves' Enigma is just . . . well . . . strange.

i really like the effect i get with an acoustic/electric (treble all the way up, tone on guitar up, volume half way, bass around 10o'clock, no mids) plugged through a dod envelope filter

I have a couple of Lexicon boxes with some seriously twisted effects algorithms. The PCM81 (for those with fat wallets) and the (sadly, discontinued) Vortex, which was dirt cheap. But I'd have to say the weirdest effect I ever used was in my analog days, when I started by recording some vocals with the tape in backwards and printed with reverb. Then I turned the tape back around (so the vocals were backward with "preverb") and inserted an Ibanez Auto Filter* stomp box. My dog would howl whenever he heard this sound - I've literally seen people's jaws drop when they heard it.

Scott

*for those who don't know, this effect - also called a 'touch-wah' changes the cut-off of a filter by detecting the level of the incoming signal

I used to run my Electric Violin through a Ibenez FL-303 flanger, a Deluxe big muff distorter compressor, a memory man, and crybaby, and then throught the filters on my Mooq.

Nobody would play with me.....

So I switched to keyboard.

hey digitmus,

do you have that recorded somewere still, cuz id be really intrestined in hearing that,

I actually love the Enigma on a lot of stuff - but strangely enough the only preset i like is the default one! I use it as an effect rather than an insert, and blend in small amounts to strings or background vocals to create some "motion".

Chess, have you checked out the WAVES Doppler? Now that is one weird mofo plug-in!

Are we just talking plug-ins, racks and pedals or combining all of the above plus playing with tape speed?

Peace,
Dennis

I don't actually own one, but have tried...

Plug your crybaby in the wrong way around, and use the volume knob of your guitar to control the howl! Sounds like a theremin (sort of)... (and sort of not)

I don't even know what you'd use that for. Recordings of Jet airplanes, perhaps? :)

My favorite sick effect is actually a mic technique.

1. Sit guitarist in studio, plug his axe into a Fender Champ, give him headphones.

2. Disconnect Champ's speaker, and connect to a long, long speaker cable, on the other end of which is an Auratone.

3. Take said Auratone out of the studio, down the hall, up the stairs, and put it in the clothes dryer.

4. Partially close the dryer door to taste.

5. Mic the dryer with a good LD condenser mic on the end of a long, long mic cable. Experiment with placement- the amount of room sound is key... (;-)

6. Feed the mic'd signal into said guitarist's cans.

7. Watch his expression! Then, print the result as he experiments with different settings on the amp....

Yes, I have done this, and yes, we did use it on a tune that got a fair amount of airplay...

Extra points if the dryer is running, I guess, although it might break the speaker wire and damage the finish on the Auratone a little- sort of a "Leslie from hell in a gravel crusher" effect.

I thought the Frommage plug was pretty wierd. Haven't found a use for it yet, though. Has anybody?

here's one for you. I posted this awhile back, but it's been a bit now.. so...anyone seen one of these ever?? I've only seen this one, and NEVER met anyone else who has ever seen one of these.

It's a "amplifier psychadelic machine" made by Companion. Mainly just a bunch of fuzzes, phasor, a great tremelo, etc...but I got it back in the early 70's I think...if not earlier.

I might try and get a better detailed picture at some time...but this was just a quickie..

on an old alesis midi verd i have (2?) if you turn the input up full to distort the adc, then put the (now digitally distorted sound) through program 102 (a ring modulator i think) it sounds crazy
